The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

are the dead really silent?

The woman seems to be shy, unsure of her place in the world. Or possibly too convinced that she had found it and started to wear it like her skin. Her submissive nature was palpable in the air between us. My head naturally tilted to the side, looking over her and the aura she seemed to give off. From her body language and voice alone it was clear she was used to fading into the world around her as if she did not exist, as though she had no right to walk in the steps of those who also walked the world. I wondered, if she were to pass would she be one to fade away as so many did? Or would she continue to walk the world, reclaiming what was her right to begin with and learning to walk again amongst the living when no one could snarl at her for being there. It was curious to think, who had the right to live or die amongst the dead or the living.

A soft smile tugs at my lips, I can feel emotion flashing through my eyes and my body. A calm warmth towards this lady, a hint of amusement and kindness. “As far as I know, this is common land. There is nothing here that is more mine than it is your’s. You have right to the warmth as well.” I stepped aside, leaving space for her to step out of the wind if she so chose. There was plenty of room in the cave for both of us to escape the snow, though small enough that it would not be drafty if we were to sit or sleep to rest. Once more I feel that smile spread over me. It was refreshing to meet someone who did not want something, but that I could give something to. “It is only dark to those who cannot see the light of life.” I looked into the cave. Indeed, two bright souls stared back out at me, filling the darkness with their lives.

Turning once more to the lady, Vaya, I blink at myself, closing my eyes briefly. I forget that most cannot see what I do, they do not feel the pulse of the earth around us, under their paws, or the power within themselves as I do. “Vaya.” I repeat, once more offering a twitch of my tail, slowly raising to my height. “I am called Samhain. I promise, the warmth of the dark in here will be more of a comfort than the light of the snow outside.” Strange how things shift, season to season. In the summer sun, the heat beats down with the rays of light. A bright winter is frigid with wind and the bite of the ice. Everything is in movement and motion, the balance is always clear if not always seen.
