A Promise Was Made

After the pack meeting had ended, his mother had picked him up and began trotting off in a direction. Where to, he was unaware. Obviously, it was difficult for him to tell directions or remember trails when he never actually walked them himself - the most likely reason that she carried Drizzt by the scruff everywhere was because she did not want to wait for his small legs. She did not want to be bogged down by him, or slowed down by him. But in the pup's mind, he who had an innocent naive view of the world, he was convinced that she rather did not want him to grow weary or for his pads to become blistered. It would be a long time until his view of the world was corrected, but for now he still thought of his mother as sweet and kind.
This time, her feet stopped by the edge of a lake that was frozen over. When she put him down, he was surprised how soft the silt was - though cold. Silently, he shivered, and tried to lean against his mother, if she would let him, to share in her heat. Suddenly, the air was broken as his mother crooned a howl to the night sky. Who was she calling to? Within minutes, that question was answered though, as a fae approached them with the oddest of markings upon her face. She clearly knew Drizzt's mother, for she ran to Hocus and began to nuzzle her, calling her by name. Drizzt coughed, clearing his throat. "My name is Drizzt, miss, if you please. How do you know my mother, here?"
Before he got any answers, a tall brute approached them, talking to all of them. Drizzt whined and hid behind Hocus, scared of this stranger, and feeling very overwhelmed.
