aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

She was, for lack of a better word, annoyed. It had been a long, hard, winter, and the unexpected attack on Aurora Borealis by the loner pack had been a disaster. Many of the members had been seriously injured, and though she had built up a store of dried herbs that she had scrounged up from the surrounding lands, that single attack had wiped her clean. Dried herbs were, of course, better than no herbs at all, but most of them were less potent and so she had had to use more of them in order to get the same effect. The shelves that she had dug out in her den were empty and barren, save for a few of the more common herbs that she had been able to stock in massive amounts, like moss. Hellene blamed herself for not looking hard enough or far enough - she had underestimated the damage that would come to them, and should one more disaster wreck havoc upon them, there would not be much she could do aside from keeping their wounds clean and poulticed. There would be no relief from pain, there would be nothing to help fight infection. Nature would have its way with them and they would be at her mercy. Hellene could only hope that she would be would be generous and gentle. This would be a lesson for the timberess - next winter, she would start to stock up earlier, and stock up more.

She had been lazing the day away curled around her daughter, though in truth, her daughter was now taller than she, when her auds began to flick. Khaleesi stirred first, and her motion more than anything woke her. Hellene had stretched and walked over her daughter, thirst overcoming her. Her limbs had carried her to the stream and she had lowered her head to drink from a small area in the river that had defrosted before returning to her den, meaning to travel to the pack with her daughter. But when she got home, she found it empty. "Khaleesi must have already roused and left for the meeting, I suppose..." Hellene mumbled herself and turned her nose toward the center of the pack, taking a path that was already well worn.

When finally she reached the clearing, her ambers fell upon not one, but two vargs upon Aurora's throne. She stopped short - for it was so odd for her to see someone by Kalgalath's side... But when she realized it was Sebring, Hellene sighed and smiled - she at least liked this fae. She was intelligent and social, and had actually spent time trying to get to know everyone already. Hellene started to walk again, her pads crushing the snows beneath her, as she swung her head, seeing who was already present. There were two teenagers that sat together - one ebony, one Ivory - that stood by Chenzii's side, and she realized that this must be Vita and Mortem, the pups that Chenzii had adopted after Kalgalath had killed their abusive mother. Near them also was Universe, and silently she moved near to him and rubbed against him, welcoming her friend warmly. Briefly, she glanced around, wondering if Brendon was with his father - Hellene had spent a little time with him, but not much. And, it seemed, he had yet to arrive to the meeting.

She moved from Universe and moved in and out of the wolves, rubbing gently against Magic, and then Chenzii. Hellene took the opportunity to examine Chenzii's limb - the swelling had begun to decrease, and it looked like it would heal without any further deformation. When she turned, she introduced herself to both Magic's pup and to Chenzii's two older offspring. "Hello my friends. Magic - you look well! This must be Tarly - hello little one. And Chenzii - I am glad to see you have bee keeping weight off of your limb! It is healing well, is the pain subsiding? And you two could only be Vita and Mortem - you are not pups anymore! I am Hellene, the head healer here. I have two pups but alas they are grown up already." As if on cue, her eyes caught sight on Khaleesi and her heart strings pulled - instead of the normal, bubbly fluff ball, she saw instead a somber, serious varg who was by herself. Hellene trotted over to Kalgalath and Sebring quickly, bowing to them and sending a special smile to Sebring before going toward Khaleesi. Hellene bumped into her daughter's shoulder, her nares nuzzling against Khaleesi as she lowered her haunches and sat next to her. "These dark times will end, my dear, and someday the sun will return to you sweetie. The first death you see is always the worst..."
