During the day, sentries guard the sleeping. When the sky is dark and the moon dances with the stars, this is when the real fun begins. Munashii Gekko's forest is the only haunt where you can find your local misfits all in one place. A land of the forbidden and forgotten, a place that is riddled with dangers of a whole different kind. The wolves here have long misplaced their rightful minds, and now live like creatures damned to prowl and lurk through the night. It's easy to lose yourself here, sanity was sure to fade away and wither; there was never anything normal about this nefarious nest. The silent threats that whispered in the breeze were enough to deter even the largest of demons around. It was not strength nor wit that ensured your survival here with Eric, and challengers would be torn down with a morose lethality - there was nothing left in his cold blue eyes that promised mercy to anyone who dared to overstep their worth. So, would you give up the sun for the moon and stars? Do you have enough vigor to become a well regarded sentry? - Put on a game face to step up and pass the sepia king's test or turn and leave before he catches your scent. You never know who wants to snack on your delicious blood in this forest.

I AM NOT THE MONSTER

Oh his gamble had been worth it! How the Lady’s smile seemed to brighten the sour mood the meeting had taken, though her professionalism never wavered in spite of her teasing responses to his remarks. Her coolness shocks me; not the degree, but its ability to still remain receptive and welcoming in its defense of her throne to a stranger who dared to mock it. She is incredible, and it makes me smile. What a force, this Ameira, a titan in her own right.

In response to her demands, the Maned Wolf at my shoulder drops instantly to the ground, belly up as if at her call he would willingly die on demand. Unwittingly, I stick my head out over his form and look down at him curiously, throwing an inquisitive glance to Ameira. The Jester hovers over the Knight a split second longer before splitting his maw in a genuine smile and lipping “I’m Frio,” before emulating his fallen brethren.

On my back I am cold, but there is such uncomfortableness in this position that makes my willingness to commit it binding; I feel it in my bones. I close my eyes with the simpering smile of the grateful dead on my face and picture this earth sucking the vitality from my limbs, stealing into my maw and blackening my tongue, my snowy coat writhing with maggots…

I shiver from my position into a sitting stature, blinking furiously at the brilliant sky in reaffirmation on my existence. I breathe to the tone of my heartbeat. I cannot look Ameira in the eye. How exhilarating, to give my life over to a stranger, and to a strange code. What do I need to do to feel alive as that again? To what more can I submit? To what more can I belong? I have the sudden urge to be a young buck with a heavy head of horns adorning my crown, spiriting away with the hot breath of the chase at my heels.

Black socks trots in next, distracting me from my reverie. She is precious this one. I sniff the air coming from her direction, laced as it is with the woody scent of thorns and the drenched taste of snow along her pelt. “I’m Frio.” I nod towards her, turning to the Alphess following the action in wait for her next, surely esteemed words.

I am the cold of the night that steals the breathe from your lungs. I creep in slowly and prickle all along the way, I carve at you as if with a knife and I diminish you. You are crippled. You beg and are ignored. And what do I do with it?
I give it back to you. Do not judge me, I am no sadist.
I am not the monster they make me out to be.
