As far as first impressions go, Elohim is a curious wolf who seemed to like to keep to himself. This didn’t bother Halcyon as he trotted up to meet the newcomer. The formal greeting was given, but the russet boy felt slightly awkward afterwards. The other had shrugged his shoulders in reply and said he was no prince. “Oh,” he said, wondering what to say next. But luckily, the conversation changes as Elohim asks about his rank. True, it was a simple enough question and one that Halcyon felt comfortable to explain. After all, two packs were seeking an alliance with each other and while it was always best to keep secrets safe, he didn’t feel like his rank was much of a secret. “You could say that I do everything. I know a bit about healing and diplomacy, but I mostly deal with defense. I am a personal guard to the Empress and her family. I stand between them and whatever dangers come looking for them.” Try as he might, Halcyon could not stop his chest puffing out a little bit. There wasn’t much he could be proud for, but he had worked hard for his new title and he was very proud of it.

Keen eyes watched Elohim as he gazed into the pack lands. Halcyon smiled and moved to the side to allow the other boy more room as he entered the pack lands. There is a smile there too and the guard wonders what is on the boy’s mind as he sniffs the surrounding air. Brown eyes look around but see nothing with range. Of course, there are several smells around them that he has come to know so well like the huge swamp deer that graze so easily in chest high water or the ever busy beaver that was always building something somewhere. It must seem so different to Elohim, just like the ocean had been alien to Halcyon. The copper wolf moved to walk beside his companion and tilted his head so he was looking up at him curiously.

“I think I saw a herd of deer as I was coming to get you. They are huge beasts that are unlike any that live in the freelands. They swim into deep water where they know we wolves cannot get them without swimming. Come on, I’ll show you.” And with that, he galloped away, taking a sharp right as he led the pair further into the swamps. It didn’t take Halcyon long to find the animals, since their musk was so powerful it makes him choke. There were five of them, a buck, three does, and a calf, all standing in the water as they chewed on the moist greens hidden under the murky waters. Halcyon crouched low to the earth as he tried to get a better view downwind. They weren’t hunting, so there really was no reason to hide, but he felt Elohim would want to see them doing what they did naturally rather than running away from them in fear. He gazed at his friend and watched his reaction carefully. He seemed the type who wanted to learn and see all. Maybe this would be something new for him to take home with him.
