Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

It does not take Matthias by surprise when the other brute joins the pair by the riverside. He had not heard him approach, the roar of the river made sure of that, but rather he had seen shadows within shadows move ever so slightly. The dull thud of the bird dropping to the ground had confirmed his suspicions as the weak looking wolf emerged. Steel blue eyes turned to see the creature who had joined them. He certainly did look like something that had only managed to get through the tough winter months, but his coat was caked with the smell of Glorall. Matthias inwardly turned his nose up to the smell of the ocean pack, but he outwardly gave no sign he was bothered. As he spoke, the older wolf twitched his ears at the raspy, hoarse voice. It sounded like he had been lapping up sand rather than water. It made the fur on his neck twinge and stand up ever so slightly, an involuntary response that he tried to get under control.

“Death clings to all wolves. It is who we are as predators,” he says simply, ignoring any other meanings to the words the strange one speaks. A female voice joins them and Matthias turns to see the other wolf crouched lowly in a submissive posture. He smirks at her, not to belittle her, but to note her talent of going unnoticed. Only skilled omegas have such a gift and it is nothing to be ashamed of. Of course, he doesn’t say this but merely listens to her speak. Matthias sits when she has finished, feeling the tension in the air begin to climax and not wanting a fight to break out. He didn’t feel much threat coming from the male so he made it look like he had completely relaxed. However, each muscle was ready to react should a sneak attack come. “I was not talking about the seasons. I was talking about the foolish way you laid down next to a raging river. You left yourself completely open to an attack you couldn’t possibly hear coming.” Matthias had never been one to sugar coat things. He was blunt and found it much easier and faster to tell things as they were. If the other chose to be offended than it was no skin off his back. He watched the two wolves before him now, wondering if they knew each other or if he had, perhaps, prevented that very scenario from occurring. A silence stretched over the group and the girl gave her name. For a moment, the aged one thought about keeping his name hidden, like so many other things, but this time he decided not to. “I am Matthias,” he said simply. Eyes of steel turn to the strange male. It was his turn to play the name game.
