Not realizing she had dozed off, Gaia slept soundly as the sun warmed her to her very soul. She had pleasant dreams of days long gone by and possible futures still to come. She did not hear the sound of the approaching male nor did she wake when he tried to walk by. It was only when he fell into the water, cascading her in freezing rain, did she wake with a startled bark. Confused, she gazed around until she spotted the gray wolf pulling himself out of the puddle. He was soaking wet and, for a moment, looked rather embarrassed. Nothing was said for a moment as the russet girl blinked sleepily.
He apologized and joked about falling. This seemed to wake her up fully and she couldn’t hold back the laughter that came from her mouth. It sounded sweet and girly, not menacing. She hoped she hadn’t offended him by laughing, but the situation was just too funny and she couldn’t stop herself for a moment as he stood there dripping. Finally, after several minutes, Gaia calmed down enough to stand up and walk towards him. “I’m sorry, I did not mean to laugh at you. It’s just… that was so funny! I hope I have not offended you. Is there anything I can do to help?”
Before he could react, she moved forward into the cold shallows and stood next to him. Pressing her sun warmed pelt against his, she hoped it would help drive the cold out of his body. Realizing her sudden brashness, she coughed awkwardly and gave a small giggle. “I’m sorry, I didn’t even think to introduce myself. I’m Gaia. From the way you smell, other than like wet wolf, you’re from Spirane too, huh? I just joined the ranks again after being gone for a few years. What do you think of the new alpha?”
Gaia didn’t think that this might be a sore topic for her newfound companion. She liked Roman and thought he was a good wolf to follow. But mostly, she was just happy to have a home again after so long. Had she been paying more attention to the situation, she would have noticed that for the first time in many weeks, her heart had stopped yearning for her imprint. It had calmed in this moment as she stood next to the gray male who had dropped so suddenly into her life.
