Very interesting, and I could add a lot if I had time. Suffice it to say;
1 In competitions anagrams are disproportionately represented in successful clues. Anag & lit and comp anag & lit occur much more often than in normal puzzles. More to say another time!
2 In comps cryptic definitions are rarely adequate (nver in Azed)
3 Whatever the skew in Azed comps they are still the best way to learn disciplined clueing
4 Democratic clue-judging has its limits but the really outstanding and sound clues will generally rise to the top
