so last year i put out a request for good books for 12-13 year old kids in my form.

what i've found is that there are some kids who will adamantly refuse to read anything, even if it's interesting and pitched at their level. i tried chatting to two of the worst offenders of this the other day, and we chatted for a bit about how to make books more engaging. one thing which did come up was the possibility of graphic novels.

so with that in mind, can anyone recommend any comic books or graphic novels for kids? they need to be relatively cheap (since i'll have to buy them, as the library has no money) and suitable for primary/elementary level reading age. some of these kids have a reading age of 6-7 years. i have one child in my form who is effectively illiterate. language needs to be really really simple and the story/visuals have to be a good hook :s i'm a bit stuck here as i never read comics/graphic novels as a kid xD
