I can understand why Azed competitors often plump for a comp. anag. & lit. It offers a good chance of an interesting surface reading and is relatively easy to compose. The problem is they they often have the same sort of cadence. "This one of those? That's made a mess of something". So lots together can, as Andrew says, seem a bit stodgy. I think they're too dominant in tha Azed lists, but it probably does reflect the entry. It was nice to see that the winning clue in the SNOWMOBILE comp was the only non-anagram in the list.
The successful clues in CCCWC are often the neat and simple ones with an interesting surface or a twist in the definition. Replies:
