you'll always be right by my side

Warmth spread through her crown, his gentle lyrics rumbled softly like distant thunder in her audit. Good morning, my heart. How did you sleep? I hope Thing 1 and Thing 2 did not keep you awake the whole night again. Sebring chuckled quietly to herself, not saying either way. She did not want him to worry any more than he already was. Her hours of sleep, or lack thereof were something she believed he did not need to worry of. She was still functioning wasn’t she? But to keep him from questioning any further she shook her head. The movement of the pups was her safety blanket, she knew they were alive. Her body holding them, it had occurred to her many a time that she could have miscarried because of previous injuries sustained in battle or even before that. Sebring’s puphood had not been one that proved to be conducive to the raising of pups. For that fact, though she’d never mentioned it to Kalgalath her father had verbally and physically abused her early on before he had left her for dead. It was those memories that had stirred at the sign of life within her. And during the many hours she lay awake in the night she would envisage those memories. She would feel a single tear slip down her cheek and she would forcefully close her lids trying to rid herself of the images. And eventually she would fall into a restless sleep, the touch of her mottled knight the only safe guard from her eternal hell.
They pair looked to her abdomen taking it the silent flickers of motion beneath her pelt. Well if they girls, they will be the spitting image of you, and if they are boys, they will be the spitting image of me. Let's name the girls Sebring Junior, and the boys Kalgalath Junior, yea? rolls of laughter and quietly giggles left the ashen lady’s form shaking. She shook her head and looked to Kalgalath, her face contorted into a look of happy annoyance. I should think that a little bit outrageous, don’t you? She nudged Kalgalath with her shoulder, before she rolled her eyes at him. Thunder had rumbled off in the distance but she paid no mind, she rather liked the sound of storms. It was calming to her, the pattering rains drops on the stone surface outside their den a forewarning to the downpour awaiting them. The river below them was swirling with snow melt and the flood of rain that fell from the sky. Sebring turned and placed a kiss on her knight’s brow before trailing her tongue up to the base of his ear laying his fur back into place. The rolls of thunder mixed with her own rumbling purr, They’ll be handsome or beautiful, should they be girls. She leaned into Kalgalath letting herself relax into his embrace. She inhaled his musky, earthen scent her mind picking out the singular scents mixed in his pelt. Underneath her own influential scent she could scent the individual smells of the pack members: Chenzii, Magic, Tarly, Hellene, and Khaleesi to name the ones more distinctly immersed into his cologne. The smell of pines, fresh herbs like poppy and moss mingled into his pelt from their bandages. As she lay there detailing the scents of his cologne the rain began to pound onto the rocky ledge and the filtered light all but disappeared, but the shift of motion brought her attention back to the present, My parents were always a big part of my life. Both of them have since passed away - of old age, not disease or injury - but if we could always name them after them as a thought. My father was Vladimir and my mother was Ilona. Just as a thought. Sebring like the idea of naming them after wolves that they held close to their hearts, but Sebring had never held anyone close to her heart. Her mother had been the only that meant anything to her…
Kalgalath rose his paws and stretched out before placing a gentle kiss atop her crown. Without the support of Kalgalath behind her she rolled onto her side, almost her back. Her limbs hung limply, her tail wagged slowly. What about you, what do you want to name them? Sebring furrowed her brow in thought. Felicity, after my mother. And Castiel should the little thing be a brute. Sebring smiled, Castiel had come from the stories of angels that her mother had told her when she was pup. Those same stories had been her saving grace during the abuse, and Castiel had always been her favorite. Her mother would ask her every night which story she wanted to hear, and every night she would say, Castiel, mommy! Pretty please? and her mother obliged. And Sebring would lay there sitting with rapt attention as their mother retold the story of the angel Castiel.
The ashen queen rolled back to her side, with a bit of effort and pushed herself up to her paws. She wobbled slightly; her swollen abdomen still put her off balance. I hope you don’t think you’ll be getting me across that river. She pulled up beside him and nudge him jokingly. But in a way she was still serious. She would not consider crossing that swollen river, not in this condition. She was bad enough at swimming without being the size of two beach balls, she would most definitely sink under the surface in this condition. There was a sudden seize in her abdomen and she flinched. Her body sunk to floor again, her lids closed. A huff of air escaped her lips as she waited for the pain to pass. She could only throw out a guess as to what was going on, but she instinctually knew what they were: Contractions. Kalgalath, I think the pups are coming… She lids opened and the fear in her golden pools was clear. She had never really thought how it would come to fruition, but the contractions were a clear signal. This birth was as real as the battle they had fought to keep their pack.
