Listener No. 4385: PD by Dragon IP: 220.127.116.11 Posted on March 4, 2016 at 05:42:24 PM by John Nicholson
This was my first PD puzzle and I was pleased that it had one set of normal clues or I would have really struggled. As it was I solved the majority by first limiting the possibilities, though I was getting better towards the end of the puzzle. That didn’t detract in any way from my enjoyment, however, and the majority of the PD clues brought a smile, many of which I thought were brilliant. I have written a couple of PD clues for the CCCWC and I must say I found them easier to write than to solve. Of course the trick is to pick out the relevant words like ‘fat’ and pulling’ in this lovely example ‘‘The fat horse pulling? That’s far too much’ for ‘The fat horse pulling th[E CART E]ats far too much’.
Terrific setting, surely Dragon isn’t a new setter.
(1971! I can’t say I miss the old money, but I wouldn’t mind being 21 again.)
