Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

as above, so below

Abel had a knack for observation; he had been born with a fierce need to watch lest he fall behind and become fodder for his siblings. Even with passing glances and open grins, he had been able to see that moment of uncertainty within his companion. Her ears twitched back and so, his ear twitched forward in silent recognition. It made his heart drop for a moment and yet, he did his best to merely dismiss it to the back of his mind for the time being. After all, now that she had been found, they would have plenty of time in the future to discuss whatever it might have been that had made her react in such a way. He did not wish to ruin the joy of the moment and so, he pressed onward with a waving tail and infallible enthusiasm. It seemed to work for a while at least.

Then, she fell into a more pensive mood it seemed. Her voice had quietened and so, he allowed his posture to be subdued too. Of course, he had been tempted to sigh in relief but he held it back, unwilling to admit that kind of weakness in front of anybody, let alone somebody he had come to appreciate. He wondered if Innana knew that? Did she know she had that kind of presence? Even a moment or two near her seemed to change the way the very world looked and felt: it simply felt better despite its flaws.

"Of course," he finally responded with shallow bow and a glad nod as he turned towards the direction of Glorall once more. It'd take them some time to return home and yet, he had no particular issue with such a thing. He'd enjoy the walk if they took it slowly and to teach her only added to the joy of the occasion. Sure, he had found her but he wanted to give her something more than just that. She deserved a better experience than simply... being rediscovered. It felt wrong to just fetch her like some stick or bone.

"We go east from here; we'll get to see the crags this way," he motioned for her to follow before he scrambled down the stone, taking his time under the guise of giving her leeway before he felt relief as his paws hit the softer earth below. This time, he hadn't been able to suppress the sigh of relief as he felt the strain lift from his back paw. "There are two big rivers in Moladion," he continued with a stout nod, his eyes unwavering from her face as he began towards Mecor Valley's runoff, "and Glorall is at the end of the longest river." He grinned a toothy grin once again as he loped forward, a slow and steady pace as the stones of the crags began to rise slowly but surely in the distance. No wonder she had gotten lost, he could not help but think, for the crags were a confusing, twisted place.

He allowed her all the time she needed. In fact, even he paused at times to sniff wearily at a stone or a patch of grass, learning all he could about these strange places lest he need to find her again sometime. Next time, he thought, he'd do it twice at quick. However, he had a passing thought that made his brows twitch and furrow, his head turned towards her once more with a slight tilt. "Innana," he began tentatively, though his voice remained as kind as ever, "how did you... you know... go so well out here? I just can't imagine it. You really must be something special to make it out here without anybody else."

as without, so within
