At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

"… This is your home - both of you. It is hard to ever truly leave, no matter how many times you try."

Blood Titan returned Kalgalath’s amused statement with a chuckle of his own.

“That’s a fair point, I suppose. The amount of times I’ve left and wound up back here is more than the years I’ve been in this world. I think it’s been a difficult finding balance for me, between a wandering, adventurous spirit, and the feeling of security that comes with planting roots in a place.”

Perhaps it was the Demonica blood in him. The Demonica bloodline built its foundation on the very idea of manifest destiny. A large empire wasn’t created by planting roots and staying put. And home was a tricky concept for the bi-color wolf. He was born and spent the first five months of his life in the heart of the Demonica owned territory. From then he had moved to Saw Tooth after following his older brother’s trail and he lived there into his late teenaged months. There was a transition time between late teenhood and young adult that he and Akina officially became mates and made a decision to not return to Saw Tooth. After that was Aurora Borealis. Even in between all those different times there were on and off breaks from Blossom Forest, returning to Demonica, exploring new lands, leaving Aurora to live with the kids as they grew after they lost their alpha positions. Titan’s entire idea of home was a mess, actually, at least in the traditional sense. That’s where Akina came in. She was home. No matter what they went through, and boy did they have some ups and downs, they always came back together. Much like his relationship with Blossom Forest. Kal then asked about what the two of them had been up to, prompting a shrug from Titan.

“Nowhere in particular, a cave etched out in a smallish mountain a few days travel from here. We both have rough pasts as far as our original homelands are concerned so whenever we leave it’s always looking for someplace new, ya know? At least until this place calls us back again.” He chuckled. A lot of chuckling and polite smiling. It wasn’t awkward, exactly, but it was a staple of small talk among wolves that only kind of knew each other. Truth be told, he liked Kalgalath, enough to consider in that moment bringing up the possibility of Aurora to Akina. Temporary or not, it was as close to a tangible home as they would probably find in Blossom Forest these days. It sounded even more tempting as the other wolf spoke of how well the pack was doing – it had grown in numbers and even more, the king had a family. Newly, apparently, two sons. Titan gave Kal a reminiscent smile and nostalgic nod… he remembered that feeling. Akina had birthed him two sons and two daughters, and the feeling of pride and loved that swelled in a new father’s chest, well, he didn’t think it could ever be matched. His pups were all grown and off on their own now, and as it happened with many wolf families, he hadn’t seen any of them in many moons. Most of the adults in Blossom Forest had not returned to their own birthlands in moons, sometimes years, and he found himself in the position of their parent. No bad blood, just a need to live on their own and branch out. It was a natural drive, to avoid competition between families and also to keep genetics from being too incestuous in a single land.

As the other wolf spoke, Titan had indeed noticed the phrase “a new mate”, but he didn’t think it his place to pry. Truth be told he had never found out that much about the alpha’s personal life the last time he was here so he wouldn’t have known what to ask even if he had wanted to. Things were going well for the alpha right now and that was what mattered.

“It sounds like things could not be better for you right now, I’m happy for you. No matter where we end up, I’d love to get together with you and your lady once I’ve met back up with my queen. For now, however, I think nature is calling our encounter to a close.”

As he spoke, the sound of steady flowing from the water around them began to change its rhythm with a pitter patter from a light spring rain that had begun to fall on them. This shouldn’t have been a surprise to either canine; sensing the rain coming beforehand was one of those extra senses that most wolves had. It wasn’t heavy, but Titan was well aware and Kal was likely, too, that they were most likely looking at the deceptively gentle beginning of a thunder storm. The droplets soaked into his thick fur and soon a small amount of the cool liquid had fought its way through his dense pelt and trickled on his skin. Titan lifted the end of his nose at an upward angle and took a couple hearty sniffs of the air. He loved the smell in the air that storms brought. He wasn’t sure where he would go to find cover, but he would probably need to leave the staircase now to make it to a cave or any decent sized den.
