Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

It was hers. Her mind fixated on that one statement as she ran from the borders of the plain pack. The rolling hills had been enticing, no more so than the ground hog that she held firmly within her jaws. Drool gathered in large quantities between the morsel and her tongue, causing her to constantly draw it around the meat and her own fangs. She was going to drown in her own saliva if she didn’t consume her meal soon yet she was not far enough. Something about that pack border gave her chills and she could not seem to get far away enough. So hungry she ran, and ran until she was sheltered deep within the shady confines of the woodland. Here she felt safe surrounded by pine. Here she could hide. Here she could eat.

And eat she did, jaws moving methodically while her eyes slowly slid shut. Ry would be lying if she said she was not savoring this meal. This single meal that broke the monotony of nothingness. This meal meant survival, meant that she would see another day and as such she paid it attention by not just swallowing it whole. Oh no, she tasted it, and reveled in the spicy flavor of the meat. Bite after bite it disappeared until only the hind legs of the creature remained. Satisfied she pauses, dragging her pink muscle across her chops to catch anything she missed. Her lips stained yet barely detectable against the red hued chocolate of her muzzle. Eyes are bright as suddenly she gives into a random urge. Rolling onto her back she writhes, exposing herself completely to the tall wooden sentries that surround her. Her movements release the scent in the pine that coats the surface of the ground, the sap seeping into her pelt and scenting her. Pine and fir with a hint of fresh snow if one bothered to really scent her. Oh she was a myriad of different locations, yet those were her two favorite. Near the mountains at the riverside and the woodlands. There she felt safe, there she knew she could get away.

Stilling she just rests, allowing her head to loll to the side as she takes this rare moment to let loose. She never knew when she would have to move on again. It seemed that her entire life consisted of land after land. Never settling down. Never having a place to call home and it took its toll. She missed pack life. She missed having a family, other wolves to look after and them look after her. It gave a security like no other, one she desperately missed. But packs meant paired couples. Packs meant pups and she was a scared individual. She could not yet face them. Could not face her past and like the coward she was she found it easier to run. Tail beats upon the earth, stirring the foliage and startling a passing chipmunk. Ears prick instantly, the predator in her awakened still for the moment. Even though the rodent was a scrap of meat it was meat still. It would help fill her chassis and build her reserves for winter. Casting a quick glance at the rest of her ground hog she took off after the rodent. She knew that the ground hog would still be there once she caught the chipmunk, there was no other being around.

Yet the chipmunk had other plans as it zigzagged through the underbrush. Thorns racked across her face, their stinging bites causing her to grit her teeth in annoyance. Perhaps it was not worth the chase yet the feel of her blood pumping within her veins kept her going. She never felt so alive as she did when she was on the hunt. With one practiced twist she soon found herself upon the creature and she seized the advantage, snapping it up from its hindquarters and tossing it in the air. It let loose a terrified shriek before she caught it. The soft crunch of bones and the sudden silence the only indication of life lost, yet it is for a good cause. With one triumphant breath she practically trots back in the direction of the rest of her meal. Mind lost on all that she had to do to prepare for winter. In this moment a bear could surprise her, and it would just be her luck.
