Things to Know about WWAST
IP: 76.243.37.193

1. The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) is not the Wounded Warrior Project. WWAST is its own independently run 501c(3) non-profit organization.
2. Bringing the WWAST to Dayton in 2016 (and maybe again in 2017?) is a grass roots effort which supports our local veterans and our local community. After expenses, the revenue realized goes to the planned new Fisher House being built at the Dayton VA Center in 2017. Your contributions help our own community!
3. The WWAST-to-Dayton Planning & Execution Committee is working with local County-based veterans commissions to host veterans who cannot afford to attend by soliciting corporate sponsors for tickets to veterans. As of 4 April, companies like Kroger, Miller Valentine, Edelman Financial, Skyline Chili, and individual contributors have already purchased almost 150 tickets for needy veterans.
4. Ways you can help fund this effort:
a. Attend WWAST upcoming fund raisers, like our “”WWAST Night at Oregon Express” on Saturday, 7 May.
b. Purchase Dayton Dragons Luxury Suite-for-20 raffle tickets to bring your friends/team to 5/3rd Field for the Sunday, 15 May game against Great Lakes Loons at 2pm.
c. Bring your family & friends out to Ron Nischwitz Baseball Stadium on Saturday, 21 May (Armed Forces Day) to attend one (or both) of our WWAST exhibition games. At 9am, the WWAST plays against an all-star team from Wright-Patterson AFB and our local 1st Responders. At 3:30pm, WWAST plays against all-stars from the Dayton Legends Softball Club, a local seniors’ softball program.
d. Consider purchasing advertising space in our WWAST event program which will be available at the games. Whether a full page($300), half page ($200), quarter page ($100), and/or a $25 notice on our Memorial & Honorarium page (set aside for recognizing family veterans who have passed on), your contribution helps support this event and Fisher House!
5. Warrior Weekend & Game Day activities:
a. Friday, 20 May, 1-2:30pm, WWAST visits Dayton VA Center
b. Friday, 20 May, 2:45-4pm, WWAST visits Hanger Clinic
c. Friday, 20 May, 4:15-5:15pm, WWAST visits Children’s Hospital
d. Friday, 7:30pm, WWAST visits Dayton Dragons at 5/3rd Field

f. Saturday, 9am, Nischwitz Stadium at WSU, Opening ceremonies for Game #1 vs WPAFB & 1st Responder All-Stars. Features WPAFB Honor Guard and American flag skydive by Fastrax into stadium, National Anthem, Introduction of players
g. Saturday, 9am, Warrior Weekend Softball Tournament at Kettering Field Softball Complex. Event for local teams and invitation to military, Gov’t civilian, police, firefighter, and veterans-sponsored (VFW Am. Legion) teams to join us in what we hope will become an annual event. Contact Donnie Brewer or Mike Cruea to enter.
h. Saturday, 9am, Nischwitz Stadium parking lot, military & 1st Responder Cruise-In, featuring vehicles of all types, shapes, and sizes. Local police & firefighter units invited!
i. Saturday, 11am, WWAST “Salute to Vietnam Veterans” recognition ceremony, to recognize the 50th Anniversary of the War. Open to any and all Vietnam veterans (free of charge) to be formally recognized by local leaders, numerous area Color Guards, and WWAST on the diamond for their service.
j. Saturday, 3:30pm, Nischwitz Stadium at WSU, Opening ceremonies for Games #2 vs. All-Stars from Dayton Legends Softball Club. Features Honor Guard, National Anthem, Introduction of players.
k. Saturday, 6:30pm, WWAST After-Party (open to all) at Little York Tavern in Dayton.
