One day, none of this will matter...

A gripping wave of water threatened to pull away the soiled heathen’s cover. Her pinnae slipped backwards over her crown, turned only ever so slightly. Every sound still echoed around the coils of her eardrum and hellfire pools watched with muted curiosity for what might be her next victim. In her fatal embrace lay the first lost soul, though it would have been likely to face a much more horrendous death in the light of day. Azriel prided herself on the fluidity of her killing. She let no drop fall to ground, lest it wasted or purely wretched in taste. Her queer tastes had their limits, particularly for the bitter. It was like a little game for her to guess on the quality of the life blood of others. During the daylight hours she would entertain herself with trying to think up a word to describe what her fellow pack mates blood might taste like, not that she’d ever truly fed on any of them. She had gone into combat with them and in the heat of battle she was likely to get an accidental taste. Azriel had trained herself to indentify different blood sources from wolves down to the squirrels that skittered across the ground. The daemon had a knack for picking up on new abilities, she enjoyed learning. All the better of a fighter she would be. And back home that had always been a necessity. The sallow shadow had not made it this far on pure luck. She’d have been in hell long before now if that was the case.

The air crackled with electrostatic attractions and suddenly it lit with life. A bolt of lightning struck through the heart of the terra and the shock the resounded through the daemon’s bodice sent her heart racing. She let out a soft sigh, the mud around her nares moistened with the humidity of her breath and as she breathed in she caught the scent of someone new. She had no time to indentify the sound as the ground beneath her began to vibrate with the four beat pattern. Azriel’s brimstone gazers sliced towards a slippery shadow of snow. His usual smirk was gone, replaced a serious, determined gaze. Azriel almost wanted to laugh, but the adrenaline in her system would not allow it. The flood of morphine-like hormone slowed the frames of her vision as Elijah approached. She watched the twitch of muscle as his body angled toward the little, limp hare. How funny, he thought he could win at this game. Her game. Knowing full well there was no grip in the ground Elijah slid past her allowing his momentum to carry his body before her, but as his maw paused before her own to grab to prey, her ivories flashed in a stunningly calculating smile. Oceans of hellfire looked straight into his own icy caverns, how so very funny. Elijah was entertaining the daemon and she would take the opportunity and run with it.

Azriel not half a heartbeat later was latching her claws deep into silt of the bank. She knew better than to push right away, and as her momentum shifted into position she finally lunged, her knives taking hold into the ground right away. And in a flash of lightning the earth ghost was gone, the crack of thunder across the sky the only sound. Azriel finally let herself loose. The blood curdling laughter finally escaped her maw, the lust for crimson fluid almost uncontrollable. Elijah was tempting fate trying to toy with her. There was a momentary pause in the drizzle of water, but following was a deluge. The droplets pelted across her back and slowly the mud washed away. Her bodice was a mixture of mud and ivory – an earth marbled masterpiece. And just ahead of her was the whip of black and white. Elijah was built for strength, the ripple of banded muscle under his pelt was enough to tell anyone that. But Azriel was built lithe and was moved quicker than most gave her credit for, but Elijah knew firsthand how fast she could move. And he was about to be reminded.

As she streaked through the terra she leapt over fallen limbs and logs that had come into her path, but before she came to close she diverged paths. Her figure slipped away into the shadows and she sped up. Her paws danced silently across the topsoil as she raced side by side with the onyx striped hellion. The undergrowth between them only let fleeting glimpses of her marbled body into his peripheral vision. And without warning her hind limbs bunched and she launched. Like a hellish dove flying through the drenching air. Her claws reached forward, over his withers looking to purchase hold into the folds of his chest musculature. If the daemoness made her first landing she, without hesitation would throw her balance to the side effectively knocking Elijah to his side and send the two of them tumbling through the undergrowth. And if the boy was smart enough to shift from her grasp she would go plunging into the undergrowth by herself and await the man to make a circle around. Whether to check on her or tempt fate while he still could Azriel didn’t care. She was already enjoying herself, tonight would be wild.
