Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

The Once and Future King

I had been resting these past few days, my chest healing slowly. Most of Taviora knew I was here by now I was sure and yet everyone had been told the same thing, a hunting accident, that was how my chest had come to be wounded and nothing else. I had calmed greatly since that night, the sunlight has a way of making the world seem far clearer then it does within the darkness and while I had not, perhaps, fully anticipated the emotional swell that the death of another at my jaws would cause I had come to some acceptance of the rightness of my own actions. I had, somewhere in the night, justified that which I had done and found the sense in it. I would always feel something. When the day came that I felt nothing for my target it would be the day to give away this so called Art of mine and yet I had found some peace in that, somewhere. The next time would be easier, not because I have become so greatly skilled from one battle as to dispatch an enemy smoothly just yet- but because I got a little better. Just a little- and it is more then I had the first time. I may not ever become totally at ease with death- but I would learn to be calmer and more controlled in battle. I had vowed to it. I had been lucky the first time, my target not within his right mind and sleepy from his mushroom meal. I had learned from that. The next time I saw the battlefield- for whatever reason, I would be something more.

I had been waiting for Zelda nearby the small stream that ran through the edge of the forest, my mind had taken to considering her of late more often than it normally did. I was forced to take something of a vacation while my chest healed and in that time I had discovered several things. The forest held endless places to explore. It was prey rich, fertile and once you knew the way not all to difficult to navigate though for any who didn’t I saw well how they became lost. The pack, the land, was far more then I had anticipated it to be and I found I enjoyed it here within the shade. I shone less without the constant touch of the sun as in Diveen and yet I suppose I was willing to give away some level of hair care in return for the first aid Zelda provided. She was one of the other things I had surely discovered more about. She had surprised me, that night, she had…understood more then I had anticipated- she had been more then I perceived her capable of being and that had only affirmed my decision more, that one day, when the time was right I should like to have her for myself- as a mate. She was willing to keep my secrets and she was willing to believe that what I did had been for reasons good enough to justify it and truly she impressed me. Her lateness though did not, where was she?

The sudden call from within the forest saw my white and silver form lift rapidly upward, a hiss passing my teeth at the pull of my injured muscle before I started forward, loping rapidly along and through the winding trees and earthen pathways. I would know Zelda’s call anywhere, my form moving faster until I could smell her and somewhere else….more then one. I burst through the trees with perhaps a little more panic then I actually needed, violet gaze falling on the sight of the alpha and the saliva and foam streaming from his jaws. I knew about poisons, at least, I knew they existed. Hadrian had been my teacher after all and their were few who knew more about poisons then he did. This however, well, this I doubted was the work of my Uncle. I didn’t know the other wolf who was here, my head dipped to her in greeting all the same as I moved to help Zelda.

“Where are your healers? We need someone who knows more about poisons, I can hold him if you want, is there anything more you can do? Is there a way to make him vomit it up?”

I looked from one wolfess to the next, searching for some answer or another. This was outside my talents to understand.

“Who found him this way? Did anyone see what happened?”

I had no idea who had been first on the scene and I suppose that assassin part of myself was moving to take over more readily, asking after exactly who was to blame for this. He was her uncle, he couldn’t die……not like this. This is not the way an Alpha dies……

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
