Have been, and still am, enjoying a caravan trip and not looking too often at the internet. I was interested to see the comments regarding the FE role in the RAAF. I don't know what the Fish-heads do in relation to maintenance when away base but I do know that in the pre-Airman Aircrew Mustering years and even in the early years following us getting a mustering, rather than being temporarily employed in the role whilst still held on strength in our basic mustering, those of us in the C130 world did our own away base maintenance within the limitations of our fly-away kit contents. It was a very rare event to have any ground crew accompany the flight crew on trips. In the modern day operations I can only assume that at least one, if not two, ground crew maintainers accompany the aircraft to service the C130J and the C17. As others have said we older Airmen Aircrew are interested in what is the situation these days. Our time has been and gone, but our memories and our interest remains in most cases.
