The weather itself is not a problem. If anything I believe that I am enjoying it even more so than some. I even feel a sense of comfort in the endless, gripping cold and blinding blizzards. The loneliness that has been creeping upon me is only subdued by my infatuation with the extreme weather that has taken over Ausus.
At times I do wish that I had gained abilities to manipulate the earth as well but there are certain perks to what I am capable of crafting. Hunger grips at my belly as I wander through the snow touched plains with eyes of deep red on the lookout for opportunistic predators. I had been strictly solitary for the last few weeks and so the protection of a herd was out of the question for the moment; being alert was my only choice when it came to preserving the life I held.
Snow laden branches creaked and groaned from the trees that dotted the otherwise silenced area. It was an ominous quiet that overtook the land yet it did not cause any unease deep within my breast. If anything, it calmed me ever more. In the near distance was the sound of two creatures struggling for the balance of life itself, their pursuit played out by the pounding of their feet hitting the cold, hard ground. Within a few moments the chase ceased, a cry of dismay sounded, and then all was quiet again. With my curiosity peaked I turned to approach where the chaser had fell it’s victim, black ears perked neatly upon my head and a long, billowing mane of obsidian brushing across my face.
My figure was thinner than it should be, as most inhabitants of Ausus were, but the thickened fur upon my skin did not display it so distinctly. In the passing months I’ve used my ability to further aid my survival in this winter, donning a warmer coat than what was usual. Once I walked up the hill I realized what exactly I had stumbled upon when the flashing of blue and silver scales caught my eye. A dragon, and no less than one big enough to have me for lunch too, though I did not fear him. It was insane not to harbor a fight or flight feeling when approaching a creature so daunting but he was weakened by his lack of meals and… perhaps he wasn’t the type to bite first, ask later.
I looked upon him with a blank stare, ears still alert, and stance tall and confident. Maybe it was my horrid loneliness that drove me to find him on this day. After the devastation that was left in the wake of my past lover I’ve been wanting company more often than not despite my solitude. I raise my head upward as I look to the sky, the overhang of dull, winter clouds threatening to let loose another downpour of snow. Instead, the clouds begin to shift and whirl about themselves, parting ways to make room for a gloriously warm ray of sunlight to settle upon the area of which both I and the dragon now inhabited. It felt wonderful upon my back, the black of my coat soaking up the heat from the solar energy, and even the frozen snow beneath my hooves began to ebb away ever so slightly. Within the hour the whole spot should be free of winter’s death grip if I were to remain.
”You look cold.” They are the only words offered to him in a carefully kind manner.
