Watching her make her way towards the bank was agonizing. At any moment she could have fallen under the ice and there would have been nothing he could do to save her. But she managed to follow his path carefully and within moments she was on dry land once again. Taking a few steps back to give her some space, he watched her shake the freezing water from her thick pelt. Luckily, it seemed she wouldn’t die of hypothermia thanks to her white coat.
Allowing her a moment to rest, he stood waiting for her to speak before he took a few steps closer to make sure she was really ok. Halcyon sniffed the air and was relieved that there was no trace of any blood. She didn’t appear to be injured in anyway so, with a sigh of relief, he sat down before her and offered a smile.
A strange question was asked and his brow lifted in genuine confusion. “Why wouldn’t I? You were in trouble. It was the right thing to do. I’m glad you’re okay, miss…?” He left the question hanging in the hopes she would reply with her name. How odd that she would feel that he wouldn’t help her. Surely there were wolves so cruel that they would leave a girl to die. It was in his nature to help and he had done so without a second thought to his own well-being.
As a side thought, he honeyed gaze turned back to where he had come from and he thought of something for a moment. “Iromar isn’t too far from here. If you’d like, you’re welcome to come with me and I can find you something to eat. Oh, I’m Halcyon, by the way.”
