I think, truly, I would be a very poor spy and hardly deserving of my rank if I didn’t see the female cross our borders and trespass all over our fields. For a few minutes at least I watched her, my long, lean earthen frame reclined upon the earth, blending with the land itself and hidden from her view- the flashes of gold that adorned my pelt only making me appear more like the grass itself. I was well suited to my role after all. The gold of my gaze rested upon her, wondering if she would realise her mistake and turn around. After all, it is easy to make a mistake, to wander a little too far. Most turn back. After all, even aged as they are, there are few whom have not heard of the victories of the Alphess of Asteria, or of her mate, Tobias, whose legend has lived longer then most. Neither have ever seen defeat in battle and even I was told tales of Tobias and his hunger as a child- the wolf whom would devour anything. Male, female or child. I respect my Alpha’s, both of them and yet it is no secret that even I offer Tobias a wide berth. He is a good protector, we are safe beneath him and he has never turned fangs upon us- this I respect and in that respect I leave him be. Clearly though, it would seem, this female either disregards the stories or has no care for them. I suppose I ought to stop her, better me than any other.
I rose easily to my long limbs, loping forward and across the field. I was light, very light, muscle truly refusing to cling to me and yet running was my talent in every sense of the word. I was faster then any other within Asteraia, indeed I was yet to meet a wolf whom could catch me at all and as such I made short work of the distance between myself and the intruding female. I slowed on approach, tail lifting upward, after all, this was my land and I would defend it- though I was, by nature, well, rather a pleasant guy I suppose. I stopped before her, preventing her travelling any further into the pack- leaving some distance between us all the same in case she rather unwisely should decide not to be friendly. I allowed something of a lop-sided grin to touch my features, standing in her way and yet affording her the benefit of the doubt still.
“Forgive me for stopping you, but you are on Asteraia pack land. I cannot let you travel any further into this pack. You will need to turn around, else state your business here and if I can help you I will.”
Slender and rather scruffy looking though I was I was ranked because I was capable, because, despite my appearance, I was more then able to force her off the lands if need be and yet truly I hoped it wouldn’t come to that. I had no desire for violence- not at all. Though I would protect my home all the same. Perhaps she was merely confused or had some business with the pack and if that was so I saw no need not to ask her for it, perhaps her intentions were honourable all the same and yet until I am sure- she will go no further.
She was lucky, truly, that it was I who showed up and not Tobias.
