Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

are the dead really silent?

The sounds of bone meeting bone rang more through my ears than through the air around us. Pain was nearly non-existent save for mere surprise of being bitten. My anger and fear for my child overpowered any thought of the small blood drops that welled to stain my white lips. The damage would have been far worse if the fangs had met the flesh of my child, but the damage would have been done to the wolf before me instead of myself.

The other wolf stepped back. Smart man. I raised myself to my full height. A low growl continued to roll from my throat, though more of a continued warning than a threat. He had backed away, should he lunge forward again I would meet him. So long as he did not threaten a life of mine he would walk away with his. I look over his body, taking in everything and nothing. As he spoke spit flew unheeded onto my face. The cleft lip that seemed to trouble him did not phase me. He is a man like any man and knew his actions as he had done them. If any wolf knew of differences and what those differences made us, it was me and it was the wolves of Asteraia.

I tilt my head slightly and sat on the ground beside my son and before Tychon. I look between the two. A very put out wolf, and my son who was chewing happily on a boney leg. Under my gaze Thoth looked back up at me with a trusting face that told more than his words could. He assumed I would take care of his situation. My son’s increasing habit of causing terror and strife to those he came across was starting to become concerning. I had witnessed enough to know Thoth had aggravated the adult wolf into snapping. Though it did not make the chance of ending his life justifiable.

Looking at the corpse and the leg Thoth had stolen I heaved a sigh. You are correct. The carcass is still mostly whole. The leg nothing but marrow. Perhaps let him keep the bone? I move towards Thoth. The pup heard my words and instantly jumped to lord over his prize. My own eyes narrowed at his impudence. His fangs bared silently at me. Rethinking, I stepped forth and grabbed the leg in my mouth. Quick as a flash, Thoth attached himself to the limb as well. As I lifted his paws came off the earth. One low growl and I shook the pup free of the coveted leg.

With another glare at my son I placed the leg in front of Tychon. He was correct. The meal was his. Unrighteous thievery was not to be rewarded. Looking back at Tychon I bared my teeth in another warning.

If I find your fangs near my son’s face again the scale will be tipped in our favor.
