Early 1990s, South Deerfield scat and paw prints. 1999-2000 Auburn/Worcester line crossing road headed to the railroad tracks (0100 ish) Too long for a dog and too low for a deer. Long tail following the body. Quite a sight in the headlights, we never chatted Repot too DEM, nah, why bother. I grew up in Denver and Boulder Colo. Cats were just a fact of life back in trhe 1960s and have grown to be trash hounds around the Table/Mesa area.
My belief is that a lot of the animals use rail lines as highways and that takes them everywhere. Take a moose on Boston streets as an example.
I am currently still in the Blackstone corridor. A near friend in Pascoag had either a big cat or Bobcat leaving a gutted groundhog. Bears around there as well. Lots of deer would mean plenty of opportunity.
My only confirmed cat sighting was a few weeks ago, watching what appeared to be a feral calico domestic type, hunting along the brook and taking birds and chipmunks back into the woods. Hung out for a few days and seems to have moved on, or was caught. All business, never cozied up but did like the shade in the garage.
Don't know how to capture catamount pictures aside from nocturnal trail cams. My road crossing experience left no time to catch a picture but I know what I saw. Replies:
