During the day, sentries guard the sleeping. When the sky is dark and the moon dances with the stars, this is when the real fun begins. Munashii Gekko's forest is the only haunt where you can find your local misfits all in one place. A land of the forbidden and forgotten, a place that is riddled with dangers of a whole different kind. The wolves here have long misplaced their rightful minds, and now live like creatures damned to prowl and lurk through the night. It's easy to lose yourself here, sanity was sure to fade away and wither; there was never anything normal about this nefarious nest. The silent threats that whispered in the breeze were enough to deter even the largest of demons around. It was not strength nor wit that ensured your survival here with Eric, and challengers would be torn down with a morose lethality - there was nothing left in his cold blue eyes that promised mercy to anyone who dared to overstep their worth. So, would you give up the sun for the moon and stars? Do you have enough vigor to become a well regarded sentry? - Put on a game face to step up and pass the sepia king's test or turn and leave before he catches your scent. You never know who wants to snack on your delicious blood in this forest.

The Demonican and maned wolves marched on side by side. Horizon touched a little on his past, a small statement, and compared it to Titan’s. Neither of them had much information regarding the other but he could tell even from just that single sentence that the wolf beside him understood having a hard past. Hard to contemplate and hard to remember and harder still to talk about. After inquiring as to the russet male’s life goals it did not take long for his roaming companion to answer. He nodded in understanding at phrases that hit close for him and simply listened intently to the rest. This one came from a dangerous family as well although his position in the family was entirely different from Titan’s. This information that was given to him gave him a vibe. Titan used to live solely based on these vibes. If something seemed like a good idea he would do it without a second consideration. If he was angry he would let someone know about it no matter their rank. He wasn’t so rash these days so when he got one of these vibes or feelings about a situation he thought it over before acting.

The vibe he was getting now was trust. The similarities between their backgrounds made Titan feel like they had a better understanding of each other than wolves from different situations might have. They both understood the sensitivity of the information. That clawing your way out of that dangerous upbringing could be hard enough without other wolves finding out and judging you or in some other way using it against you. That aside from a wolf’s basic instinct to not make themselves vulnerable and although not physically, retelling your past experiences can certainly make you feel vulnerable, especially if they aren’t all happy and wholesome memories. He had the vibe that he could trust the wolf beside him and while every initial reaction was to pull away from that, Titan decided he should allow himself to be open. Not transparent, but at least a start. This was his chosen family now. It would take time to build up to the point of really feeling like a family but if he made no effort then they would never get to that place. Ameira trust Horizon after all, so he should too.

“What about yourself, Blood Titan?”

“Well, I’m also not from Blossom Forest originally. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the family of wolves called Demonica. Most wolves who’ve lived in Blossom for a long time are but Demonica hasn’t been active here for a few years now and even longer than that since it was heavily active in numerous packs. Anyways, in its day it was very well known and very feared. It still is in lands located closer to its mainland. It stemmed from one very large family but it was also the name of the empire that the family ruled. It was founded by a wolf named Black Skull… actually, I think his father might have started things but nothing really grew until Black Skull was in charge. It grew in a very short time, actually. I was… am Black Skull’s son, part of the second and last litter born by his lawful mate.”

Blood Titan scoffed, suddenly aware of how much he was telling Horizon.

“I’m not sure why I’m getting so detailed… but there it is. I’m the son of the evil emperor Black Skull. Our family bloodline is predisposed to heavy blood lust. We aren’t born as some vampiric breed or anything but with the predisposition already in our genes, they nurture it from the time you’re born, basically. Every fifth feeding is blood instead of milk. And anger, killing, stealth, every fighting tactic you can think of, even the dishonorable kinds. That’s what we’re raised with. If you’re not strong enough to take it you’re killed. If you’re not part of the Demonica family there’s some lenience; they just use you as a pawn or as practice for the pups that are training but as a Demonica born pup your job is to be strong from the start. There were only two of us in my litter and I’m the only one alive today.”

Almost everything he said was spoken very matter-of-factly. He had emotionally detached from these memories long ago. There were many other things he could go over from that era in his life but he decided against elaborating any further for now. He was already giving so much information, some of which was probably more detailed than need be. He looked up from his path for the first time since he’d started speaking and locked with Horizon’s mismatched pair, just reestablishing the connection, and then looked back towards the path that laid out in front of him.

“My older brother and the true heir to Demonica, Crimson Blood, was the beta at Saw Tooth when I arrived in Blossom Forest as a pup. At some point very early into my teenaged years Crim killed our father. After I became a father myself I took an extended trip back to Demonica to renounce my title which, had I done during Black Skull’s time I risked getting killed over. Crimson Blood has been missing for many years now and with me renouncing my title, the main family and the most trusted deputies have broken out into something of a civil war. Demonica still holds many lands and has their hired agents and such but their grip has loosened, especially in any land as far out as here.”

That was his less than clear cut way of saying they were safe. From his family at least, they were safe. It was one less thing for anyone else in the pack to worry about.

“But that’s not what has made me who I am today. Not really. My ability to survive. My ability to lead. My ability to protect. My temper that sometimes is justified and sometimes not. That all stems from those roots, sure. And another day, maybe we’ll get into what other things have shaped me. Certainly some things that are more significantly a part of me today than anything from Demonica.”

He offered a smile. He wasn’t sure where to go from here. At least with himself so the best he could do was turn the conversation back to Horizon.

“Do you have any thoughts about what rank you’d like to try out for?”
