aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

The pack meeting had gone well overall, with almost all of the career heads filled by the members through volunteering. There were a few that Kalgalath had known would be difficult to fill, namely the nursery career, because pups so far had been relatively rare within the pack. A few of the wolves had adopted pups over time, but he and Sebring were the only mated wolves currently, and even in the past the other mates had never had pups. And so none had even shown interest in the career, making Kalgalath wonder if the position was one that would stay. His two pups had not needed nurse aids - the pack had naturally accommodated them, and whenever he or Sebring were away, Vladimir and Castiel were watched. It did help that they were relatively well behaved... Not that all pups were though. But if the position were to be demolished, surely it could simply be integrated into one of the other jobs, or put to the task of the tier three wolves. In many packs, the lower ranked wolves were responsible for all of the babysitting... It could work here as well.

Kalgalath rolled onto his dorsum, opening his lids to stare at the needled branches above, grand arching boughs framing the ceiling of his den. Unlike most other wolves, his den was not dug in the earth - be it soil or rock - but instead was made of a set of grooved fir trees. It gave him the advantage of camoflauge, for the entire interior of the pack was lined with dense bunches of every time of fir, and so his sect looked like nothing more than a continuation of the forest. But it had served him well since the beginning of his reign - it was large enough for him, his mate, and his family. It kept them dry when it rained, warm in the winter by blocking out the cold and keeping in their body heat, and relatively cool in the summer by blocking out the hot rays of sunshine. Each time he entered or left the den, he got groomed by the needles, each one pulling through his pelt and cleaning out loose strands of hair and fur... It was a luxury to be sure.

Slowly, he turned back onto his side and folded his legs beneath him until his pads reached the earth and pushed off, raising his weight off of the ground. Sebring and the pups had been up earlier than him for once - normally he woke before the sun and made the hours long trek around the outside of the territory, ensuring that his scent was strong and that there had been no intruders overnight, which there rarely were. More often than not, it was prey, which Kalgalath was only too happy to have entering the pack. Though Prey Plateau normally had more than enough prey for all of the wolves in Blossom Forest, there were certainly times of drought and famine, and it was at times like that it was good to have a healthy population of prey within your own pack.

But this morning he had slept in - apparently tired after the long pack meeting - and the King found himself alone in the den. It was bittersweet really - He loved being able to wake up and watch them sleep for a few minutes, but he was also glad that they were all out moving around the pack, and hopefully bonding with the other pack members. Slowly, Kalgalath pushed his way through the boughs and then trotted down across the lip of the ravine until the steep slope became more mild, and he traversed down it and leapt across the river, only his pads getting wet. As he ascended the opposing side, he tilt his nape back and let loose a call, a sharp bark that would let his pack members know where he was, in case they wanted to talk or hang out with him. In the early days of his reign, allof his time had been spent with his pack members, and he had become best friends with each member, but now there were many members he hardly knew at all. Perhaps that was why his Gamma position was unoccupied - though he would have given it willingly to Hellene, she did not want it, and none of his members had earned it yet. Though he was naturally very trusting, it was an important position with a lot of meaning.

Puling himself up the rocky slope, he eased in to a leisurely trot, slowly traversing across the land, not toward the boundary but instead he kept to the interior. One day of not running the boundary would not be an end all, and on this day, he would much prefer spending his time doing something more worthwhile - like spending time with his pack members. He could only hope that one of them would meet up with him soon... Though he would not mind searching them out either.
