Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

How curious, Moonfeather thought, that fate would see fit to bring them together this day. Two young girls, who were both open minded enough to accept animals that were not of their own kind into the fold, counting them perhaps as their closest friends. She felt fortunate to have encountered the pair who stood before her on the ice, to have found what was perhaps a kindred soul in some ways, and someone who could understand her devotion to Kutcha. Even if the raven seemed less appreciative of the meeting, he was pleased that his charge had met a like-minded individual. Maybe it had been luck that he'd guided her to this place just before Solstice had arrived, but maybe - just maybe - it was something more than that.

The girl looked towards the rabbit as Solstice introduced him, and noted the look of detestation on his tiny rodent face. Moonfeather's head cocked to the side for a moment, wondering if she was imagining the expression or if he just really didn't like her. Then again, could he be blamed? In the natural order of things, he was prey, and she was predator. They weren't really meant to like one another, but Moonfeather didn't think any less of her newfound friend's companion. She simply smiled, and thought that in time she'd grow on him, once he realized she wasn't interested in hurting him. Still, she couldn't help but let out a light, bell like laugh at the way he glared up at her, then tracked Kutcha as he repositioned himself out of the way. "It is nice to meet you, Solstice! And you too, Veli," she said, giving the rabbit a meaningful look before turning her attention back to Solstice.

When Solstice dipped down into a play bow, Kutcha made a gurgling croak and watched her and the rabbit closely. But Moonfeather answered the motion with a bow of her own, her hindquarters propping up as her tail waved back and forth. At the question, she stood back up and shifted, starting to feel the cold seeping into her paws despite the surrounding fur that insulated them from the snows. Direct contact with ice was different than padding through snow drifts. "I haven't....yet!" she exclaimed with a laugh, then danced across the ice to the closest bank. She glanced around, wanting to get a running start to slide as far as she could, but she needed to find a good angle and a smooth bank to start from. Looking back over her shoulder at Solstice she barked for her friend to join her on the bank. After all, they had to start at the same spot, didn't they?

She backed up a little bit, then sprinted towards the icy river. As soon as she hit the surface, she knew she wouldn't be able to keep running, so she planted her paws and began to slide. Unable to keep her balance, she tucked her hindquarters beneath her and proceeded to skate across the ice on her rump. Peals of laughter filled the air until she finally came to a stop some distance away. Unbeknownst to her, Kutcha had taken flight and soared overhead, keen on the track she careened along in case there was some danger in it for her. She glanced upwards and found him hover above her and had an idea. "Kutcha! Come mark my place!" The raven croaked, but obliged, landing on the ice and standing where she had come to a stop so that she could return to the starting bank and see if she could beat her best. But before she went she looked back upstream for Solstice, barking her joy at the experience, and waiting to see how far the other girl would make it.
