CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.
Messages posted in the last 24 hrs. are in White.

JEFF WALKER - RIP

Jeff Walker who died on Monday 25th July was originally a member of Tower Company of the 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, a logical choice for a man working in the City of London. On the creation of the TAVR in 1967 he transferred to C Company of the newly-formed 5th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers based at the Drill Hall in Balham, then commanded by Major Paul Newall.

Jeff served at Balham until the mid-1970s when the commute from his Essex home got a bit much.
Rising to the rank of Corporal he was an excellent section commander and latterly a member of the Support Weapons Platoon (commanded by Captain Chris Webb) where he was a specialist with the Mobat anti-tank gun. When in 1974 the 5th Battalion sent a composite company to Gibraltar for a fortnight’s camp guarding the then closed border with Spain, Jeff was a regular sentry in the box at the Four Corners Guard room.

Jeff retained his military connections by becoming an adult instructor with the Essex Army Cadet Force where he rose to the rank of WOI and qualified for the Cadet Forces medal. His proudest achievement was to get one of the county’s detachments rebadged as Fusiliers and as a result he once again wore the hackle with pride.

A good companion, a personal friend for nearly fifty years and always a proud Fusilier, he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his widow Jan and his family.

His funeral is being held at the Chelmsford Crematorium at 3.30 on Wednesday 3rd August.

Jon Mills
(Former WOII(CSM) C Coy)
