doorwarning lightsRe(7): MILITARY PLANE PLUNGES 4,400FT WHEN PILOT'S NIKON GOT STUCK IN CONTROLS

The front cargo door on the A model was a headache. I recall on early trip from Townsville to Richmond we had one come one during climb out. Don Jones was the loadmaster but he would not go near it.

There did not appear to be anything wrong so we reduced the cabin pressure and went home. Strip down found one of the corner catched cracked on the outward side. Round about that time the USAF lost a whole door with 2 or 3 pax still on it. aircraft recovered OK but the pax I believe were lost.

The catches were often hard to engaged and often the aircraft had to be towed or taxied to get the latched in position.

In 1960 the front doors were permanltly closed and we had no more trouble.

The forward door was little use and the introduction of the 463L system solved most of our loading problems'
