Re(1): A Trip To The Cottage

The trees cut down in Scout Valley are American Beech trees that were killed by Beech Bark Disease which is caused by the combination of an insect working together with a fungus that kills the trees. The dead trees are subject to beech snap which makes the dead trees very brittle. They break off and fall across the trail so have been cut down to remove the hazard of trail users being hit by these trees. Only dead American Beech trees with Beech Snap have been cut in Scout Valley. The real name for Scout Valley is Scout Valley Natural Heritage Park which is owned by the City of Orillia.
