The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

She had never been more furious or confused in her life, and only wanted to leave in order to get as far away from Grey Wind as was possible. As she stormed away from Grey, her bitter words still hanging in her mouth. How strange was it, how odd – that she saw her life so much clearer now that her mind was completely fractured. She paused midstride, long enough to quickly grab a dry stalk of poppy that she passed – winter had more than reached its halfway point, but her own supplies were dwindling far too quickly. Worse than that, though, was that she had stored most of her dried herbs within Grey Wind’s own den… for that had once been her den too. The only place that she could call home.

For Saw Tooth was gone. Her family was gone. All that was left was Abendrot. And Grey Wind. And of course, her masters too…

Speaking of which…

Darling what is the matter?’ Once upon a time, Macaria would have jumped. Once upon a time she would have scurried to a corner with her tail curled between her limbs. But that was before. She was different now. Calmly, stoicly, she turned to face the twins. They had been absent since the pack meeting, and Macaria had missed them. Especially him. For he had held her brother down and presented to her his jugular. He had been the one urging her on. Though they would both be her masters for the rest of her eternity, Herchel would always have a hold on her heart and soul. ‘Don't worry your pretty little mind, Herchel and I are back to take care of you.’ Macaria narrowed her lids and scoffed before finally swallowing down the dry poppy. “I am some toy for you? To decide from time to time when and where you would like to play with me?” Her words snapped harshly at them, but her heart skipped a bit when Herchel neared her – her shoulder being brushed with his, her head being brushed by his. And before he even spoke, she felt his trachea reverberate, telling her that she was about to hear his vocals for the first time. ‘Macaria, what’s wrong? You can tell me, you can trust me…

The eboness leaned into his touch, tilting her head up slightly to rub against the underside of his façade, enjoying the feel of his masculine jawline against her flesh. A soft purr grew in her own chest and she nuzzled against him. “It is all wrong, I am all wrong.” She shook her head, but only succeeded in rubbing against him more completely. “I am different than I ever was, stronger. Life is different than it was before – I can see things clearer. And one of the things that I see clearer than anything is that my relationship with Grey Wind – if it can even be called that – is broken more than even I am. He has taken from me my innocence but gave nothing in return. He would have taken all of me, but a piece of me will always be yours. And until he figures out his own mind, I will not remain.” She pulled back from him, pulled away in order to raise up her pumpkins to peer into the darkness of his mask, searching for questions unasked.
