Egerbie to be in area this weekend

The great Egerbie, a Seminole player from the early 80s, will be in the area this weekend.

Egerbie played for a few seasons at the Seminole Middle School along with "Seminole" King, Matt the Mummy, Javy, Mark Fox (aka Joey), Laca, and former pros Paul B, Greg, Tedrick, and Chris.

He left for the Navy in the late 1980s, where my classic newspaper "The Pelota Press" had a line "Don't look for Egerbie this summer, he's out to sea!". He later moved to Georgia and had been a blackjack dealer on the gambling boats for decades.

Egerbie was named after one of my favorite Bridgeport Jai-alai players who later became the players manager in the fronton's final years. Only one other player on the Seminiole/Largo roster was not given a Tampa jai-alai player nickname and that was Mark Fox who called himself "Joey" because of his kill shots.
