Re(1): Richmond

Same old story that has been pedalled around for years. It will happen, but not in the near future:

Weekend Australian September 16, 2016
The air force is keen to sell off two of its oldest bases — Richmond, near Sydney, and Laverton, near Melbourne.

Royal Australian Air Force chief Leo Davies revealed in Canberra yesterday that the air force had advised the government that it was keen to decommission the bases as part of a consolidation of defence facilities.

Air Marshal Davies said the older bases were very expensive to maintain and the RAAF could save considerable money by disposing of them and distributing units based there to other facilities.

Defence Minister Marise Payne was quick to tell parliament she wanted to clarify the government’s position on the two bases. “I would like to make it clear the government is not considering the closure of either RAAF Base Richmond or RAAF Base Laverton,” Senator Payne said.
