The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

MEN SHOULD KEEP THEIR WORD,

Snow was falling silently in the trees, littering everything it touched with a white coating. The trees that had been lush and green a few months ago had lost their leaves and were thin and bare. Bushes were hidden under a white blanket, making food scarce for most prey species. That in turn went to the predator species as their usual food was not around as much and those that were, were skinny and not as satisfying as they normally were. Winter was a time when most did not thrive, but all would wait for the spring to bounce back. But that did not mean that every being in the forest was suffering. Some that were not used to the snow and cold would surely be miserable, but that was not the case for the large male that was wandering through his pack. Grey Wind’s form normally blended easily into the shadows of the trees, making him hard to find, but with the snow he stuck out more. Not as much as some of his packmates, like Halina who was dark as the night and the opposite coloring of the snow, but it did not help the predators hide, unless of course their pelt was white in color. But the male had nothing to hide from here, this was his pack. Abendrot had been his home for a long time now, and he knew every inch of the territory here.

Paws crunched in the snow that was still falling. Fresh snow was the best kind in Grey Wind’s opinion. It was tainted by none and made everything look uniform. Yellow orbs scanned the area, but it seemed that none were active right now, at least not where he was. His breath puffed in the air from the cold temperature, but he did not feel the discomforts of cold with his thick winter pelt. He wondered if he would run into any of his packmates, but things had been fairly quiet lately. He knew he was partially to blame for this with how distracted he had been. More drama had occurred with Macaria, the only female that he had been with but yet he still could not be honest with her, or more importantly himself, about his true feelings for her. Having feelings for another was something that had been foreign to him, but deep down he knew that was what was going on with the two of them. And after she had come back from a trip, he was even more attracted to her. The frightened and shy female was gone and had been replaced by a bold and fearless femme.

Macaria was not the only one thing that had caused a distraction to the brute though. Grey Wind had tried to block out his past as much as possible, not wanting to face the demons that were lying in wait. For years he thought that his entire family was dead, killed by an enemy pack, but that turned out not to be true. He had discovered that his brother, Summer, had managed to escape just as Grey Wind had. The two had run into each other when Kerhsov was still alpha, and Grey Wind had accompanied him to Bright Moon to check on the other pack’s status, and had discovered that his brother was the alpha there. Summer and Grey Wind had not been close when they were younger, and it seemed that they would not become close now. He had not seen his brother again since then, but he knew he was still around. Then an encounter with an Abendrot wolf, one that had been around for a while, had made Grey Wind realize that Summer was not the only one that had survived. Mabbit turned out to be his youngest brother, and in terms of coping with all the loss, both males had erased each other from memory. But now two of Grey Wind’s ghosts from the past had come to the present, and it was a lot for him to wrap his head around.

Despite the family and personal drama that was going on with him, he still had a pack that he was in charge of. Grey Wind would not let anything happen to this pack while he was still alpha, no matter what he may be dealing with. And so he still continually did border patrols and anything else that may come up. The trees that he was walking by were all too familiar to him on his usual patrol route. He did not normally see any other vargs out and about, Abendrot was the type that liked to keep to themselves, but he kept an eye out in case any happened to be around this time.
