Halcyon’s musical voice took the pup’s breath away. The authenticity of his song was heartfelt and deep. She could tell the words meant something to him, just as they tore her apart. A mother’s love, was something Pariah never had. It was a feeling she had never felt and could not comprehend. These words he sang were so foreign to Pariah she could feel the sinking feeling in her heart and soul with every syllable. Mirage would know love. She would know what it was like to have a head pressed to her chest, a soft kiss between her ears. The illusion Pariah would create would be loved by someone, possibly anyone who came across her. She would forget and be free of the curse the hated pup carried with her. But first, she needed to escape this boy. This beautiful beautiful creature who taught her love in a single verse. She could not destroy such a thing, she dared not linger for fear of infecting him.
