aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

S E R A P H I N A

In her dreams, Seraphina often found herself thinking about what could have been. What her life would have become if she’d stayed home that fateful day. Her dreams would take new paths each time, some realistic and some not so. The King and Queen would probably be finding her a prince, truth be told. There was no denying that the princess was no pup. Dante too ran across her dreams. It was a great let down when Sera awoke to find herself alone. She’d tried to think of her parents a few times just so that she could have some sort of interaction with them, even if it was only a figment of her imagination, but she couldn’t even bring up a clear picture of what they’d looked like, much less what they’d sounded or acted like. In this way, Seraphina didn’t know if she envied her sister or felt bad for her. It wasn’t great not knowing anything about her parents, but at least she couldn’t really miss them. Dante had known them and she’d lost them. The firebird didn’t pity her sister - she could never - but she did realize that that couldn’t have been easy on the elder of the two. Actually, the more she thought about, she hadn’t been very fair in how she’d treated Dante over the subject before.

It seemed that not only had her figure begun to change with adolescence, her mind had as well. She hadn’t been selfish per se as pup, but Sera had started to think more about others and how things affected them rather than just thinking of herself. This was a good thing, she knew that. Mireille had always tried to teach her to be more like that as a pup, more “ladylike” and “proper” so that she would be a good queen one day, but it seemed to be sinking in only now. Seraphina had never appreciated those lessons as a pup, but she was starting to see the virtue in them now. Manners and consideration of others played a big part in diplomacy and that was exactly what she wanted to pursue when she was old enough to make a contribution to the pack. Months ago she’s said that she wanted to be either a liaison or an advisor (if she hadn’t inherited the Summer Eclipse pack at that point) and she still held true to that. The way the princess saw it, if Vladimir was to one day be Alpha he’d need someone to help him, especially with his rather… short temper. Castiel would undoubtedly be there with Vlad, but having Sera too couldn’t hurt. She couldn’t deny that she had a temper as well, but she knew when to keep her mouth shut.

Even though it was early in the season yet, it was undeniably spring. The princess could feel the warmth of the sun as it crept deeper and deeper into her den. The ethiopianess wasn’t usually a late sleeper, but what could a few extra hours hurt. She had all the rest of the spring, summer, and fall to watch the sunrise. Besides, the chill in the air was still present in the mornings and it penetrated her sleek coat with ease. The firebird continued her slumber until a bark came from outside her den and the smell of hare and squirrel flooded into her nose. The cooper crown raised up, emeralds blinking to adjust to the light that filled the den. At first she thought that it was Vlad or Cas who had come, but it only took her a moment to realize that it was Sebring, their mother. The girl stood, shaking her coat from any dust that had gotten into her fur from the floor and yawned to wake herself up. A deep stretch, and then she headed out into the daylight to see the Alphess.

Considering how adolescence often caused wolves to look, Sera had been lucky. Her legs looked a bit long for her, but other than that she’d been quite fortunate. Much to her chagrin, her long legs were only an illusion and she really wasn’t all that tall. Actually, she was surprisingly small. A fact which would bother her for the rest of her life because Seraphina would never be tall, but remain a small and dainty little bird. And in comparison to her larger friends, this would prove reasonably irritating. But for now, the princess had no reason to think that she would remain small forever and didn’t let the fact annoy her too much. She greeted Sebring with a smile and a wag. As much as she liked being with Vladimir and Castiel, she missed being around another female.

“Hello Mrs. Sebring. What brings you out here today?”
