aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

At their paws, the victim of his own misfortune begins to tremble and Kalgalath does not miss the look of anxiety that crosses Hellene's pools. While he knows nothing of healing or herbs or the way the body works, he knows enough to trust in Hellene... and it is rare indeed for anything to worry her. Arctics stare coldly down at the brute, at the lifeblood flowly freely from Hurricane's multiple wounds, but also from his maw and nares, and Kalgalath feels fear seep into his body. His job as Alpha is to protect his pack members - but this is not just from outside forces, but from themselves. From the first moment that Hurricane had arrived it had been clear indeed that he was bonded completely and utterly to Losa... and with the little bird's absence, Kalgalath should have kept a special eye on Hurricane. Whether this was an attempted suicide, or a desperate attempt to distract himself from his own demons, Kalgalath did not know, but he could not help but think that he could have saved Hurricane from this fate. Afterall, how many times had he been left, heart ripped apart and his soul battered and bruised? It seemed to be a reoccurring habit of his, and who better than Kalgalath could have helped Hurricane here? And while Kalgalath liked to think of himself as a sane, logical wolf, he would be lying to deny the presence of darkness in his soul. It was better guarded and hidden than in most others, true, but it was still there.

'Stop it, Kalgalath.'

"Hmm?"

The healer tutted her tongue as she swiftly moved about Hurricane, poulticing each wound with dryer materials than she would normally use... but the free blood flow would do well enough to moisten them. The fiber and leaves and needles and moss she added in would provide a matrix for the blood to clot upon, even while the blood glued all of the materials together, allowing their healing properties to seep into the broken flesh. And even with all of her busy-bodying she still was managing to reprimand the Alpha, no fear on her face of possible retribution.

'He is your ward, but this is not your doing nor your fault. You hardly knew him. If he survives, you can be supportive and be his friend. But I will not. I will yell at him for this, this stupid stupid thing that he has done.' Her ambers swept up as Kalgalath inhaled sharply and she glared at him. 'What!'

Kalgalath's words were quiet... hesitant. "You said 'if', Hellene. You didn't say 'when', you said 'if'." Hellene huffed and used her foot to scuff some dirt in the King's direction.

'A mere slip of the tongue, is all.' But it wasn't... Hurricane was in bad shape. 'Be useful and fill your stomach to shut your mouth. And bring some meat to your mate and the youngins. And lay the rest out to dry. Leave me to my work.' She wanted to give him a job to do, to ease his worrying. He would be no good to her by distracting her. Silently, Kalgalath nodded and did as she asked, chewing off a haunch and bringing it to his den so that Sebring and the boys would have a meal, and when he returned, he ate himself in silence, artics peering at the working shaman. Once he was full, he did as she had asked, pulling muscle from muscle in thin sheets, laying them out in the sun to dry, but as soon as Hurricane's words rang in his auds he shot to his feet.

'what.... the hell'

Kalgalath opened his maw to speak but Hellene beat him to it. 'You dumb, stupid, ignorant wolf, thinking to be all high and mighty and bring down something such as this glorious beast by yourself. What in the hell were thinking? You're god-damn lucky boy that I have ready stores to care for you or you would be dead. And causing Kalgalath here to worry about you... Idiot!' Kalgalath chuckled and pushed Hellene away gently. "Hurricane... here we are all family. We help each other and rely on each other... you should have come to me. But sleep now... sleep and rest."
