I found this an easy solve mainly because my junior school teacher made us learn it by heart. I have always loved the poem. I was impressed by the way Hedge-sparrow had fitted all the cargoes into the puzzle.
I was perplexed by the clue to AMEER but I see from the notes that the setter was probably using the 2003 Chambers. Maybe the editors should have spotted it.
However, I feel a bit grieved that, having chosen the spelling of quinquereme that Masefield used in the poem, it will be marked wrong. Replies:
