Re(1): Bird ID

There have been large flocks of Rusty Blackbirds moving through our area this week and calling in loud choruses. Therefore you would expect this lone male to be maybe a Rusty Blackbird. It is difficult to see any colour gloss in the photo and that is not always the best field mark to separate a Rusty Blackbird from a Brewer''s Blackbird. Not all Rusty have the rust colour edges on the feathers at this time of year. However, looking at the bill which is thick, short, straight and heavy with little down curving at the tip, it appears to be a Brewer's Blackbird. Brewer's are rarer at this time of year but there are small isolated nesting colonies near Coldwater and Midland in our area. Hard to see if the eye is more whitish yellow than just yellow but it does appear very light in colour.
