well jimbo, when you have limited time to spend at the lake its good to have access to fishing tools such as water temp and wind direction. water temp is important because it tells me where the sugeye prob are located so i do know where to start fishing for them according to temp and wind and cloud cover info. but if you have time yes do go to the lake and enjoy the day fishing. nothing wrong with that. some people just want a little info before they start.
