aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Seraphina couldn’t stop a smile from making it’s way onto her visage as Vladimir spoke from beside her. “Of course I will always protect you! With me around, no one will ever hurt you!” She’d known he’d say that, but actually hearing the words straight from his mouth… It affirmed something inside of her. Deep down, there was the fear that Vlad would reject it or laugh at her. The princess was generally rather blasé about that sort of thing, but with brute beside her, she genuinely cared what he thought about her. How he felt about her. For the first time in her life, Seraphina found herself concerned with such things. And perhaps the ethiopianess was reading into it too much, but the promise held more than what had been said aloud. To her, it was far more metaphorical in meaning. It was safe here, and there was little likelihood that she would ever be in enough danger than she would need Vladimir. Sera couldn’t know that it might come into play sooner than imaginable. She, nor Vlad for that matter, knew what was coming their way.

The pair headed off in silence, but Seraphina was quick to break it as she reminisced about their days as pups. It seemed like a lifetime ago, when really it had only been months. At her side, Vlad laughed along with her, but cut off abruptly when the princess leaned into him. He coughed, and Sera tilted her head back to look at him with a furrowed brow, concern filling her emeralds. The cave - or worse, she- wasn’t making him sick, was it? The prince’s coughing subsided as quickly as it came and Sera’s head returned to its normal position. Without warning, warmth engulfed the firebird’s nape and her breathing hitched in her throat. For a moment, Seraphina was frozen, caught off guard, then she arched her neck slightly. The tingles that had run through her earlier seemed to be magnified. Warmth rose to her cheeks and even the princess was realizing that she couldn’t deny that she liked Vladimir. Maybe she even… loved him.

The heat on her neck left suddenly as the prince pulled away from the embrace. “I remember…” Seraphina’s eyes moved to where she knew his crown was, not bothering to look in front of her. “I will always remember. And… I’m glad too. I… I think…” All of a sudden, Vladimir’s teeth fixed around her scruff, pulling her back with him as he scrambled in the direction they’d come from. “I think we found a tunnel. Want to try to explore it? We could slide down it…” The princess felt as though something had been left out of Vlad’s speech, but she shrugged it off as soon as she thought about it. There were more important things to worry about right now, namely this tunnel. It was too dark in the cave to see it and it was by Vladimir’s quick thinking that they had not fallen into it blindly.

“Ladies first, as they say.” Sera smirked in the darkness. She released the prince’s tail, regret tugging at her, but she knew they would be reunited within moments. Slowly, the princess edged towards the tunnel, hoping she wouldn’t fall in by complete surprise. When her paws caused loose pebbles to tumble down, creating echoes, she knew that she had found it. Seraphina turned back to look at Vladimir - or rather, his outline - once more. “See you on the other end.” She said in mock seriousness, treating it as though she was a soldier going to war. The ethiopianess made her way down more quickly than she’d wanted to, her claws her able to get a good enough grip to slow her down, and tumbled out of the end, knocking the wind out of her. Fortunately, Seraphina had the good sense to move out of the way of the exit so at least the larger Vladimir did not fall on her. The ground here was wetter and the smell of damp permeated everything. The firebird shook her coat free from any dust she’d acquired, noting the echoes everything made. It was safe to say that this part of the cave, at least at their present location, was more cavernous than the other. Trying her best to make as little noise as possible, Sera towards the prince, allowing her tail to drag in some of the water on the ground. As she approached Vladimir, she flicked the appendage at him, hoping to get some of the water on him and mimic their earlier game. Then she returned to her place beside him, rubbing against his flank and curled her tail around his. “I’ll follow you wherever you go, Vlad.” Seraphina whispered to the prince. Both in the caves and in her life. “So what’s the plan?”
