aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Some are born great
Some achieve greatness

Truly he had feared for her, that she could get stuck. Yes, she was smaller than he and he had fit through… but it had required the entire emptying of his chest. If she struggled and thrashed against the stone, it would macerate her flesh and strip from her the very muscle that strung her body together. For a second, he feared the worst as his golden rimmed arctics peered at her anxiously. She scrambled and wriggled and wiggled before his eyes through the teeniest of caverns. With nervous rigor he held bated breath until finally she broke free of the marble cage that held her. Delicate paws moved beneath her to hold her weight as she stood before dancing toward him. Their flesh intertwined once more as she rubbed against him yet again, as she had time and time again, but only within the darkness of this, this abysmal cavern. ‘I am now. Are you alright, Vlad?’ The gangly teen nodded, knowing she would feel the motion against her shoulder even if she could not fully see the outline of his skull and cap. Even as he made the motion he felt her own as she peered back at the path from whence they had come. ‘I guess we won’t be going back that way. Do you still want to keep going?

And then Seraphina laughed, and Vladimir laughed along with her. For her question was not a true question that needed an answer, but instead a rhetorical question with only one true answer – they had no choice. The way that they had come from had no other paths, no escape route. If they did not wish to die down here, they would have to find some other way out. But Seraphina had asked the question nonetheless, and that in and of itself made the entire situation more comical. “Aye, my lady!” Vladimir leapt back into a bow, splaying wide his limbs and dipping low to the earth. “Let us travel on ahead and see what secrets indeed we may discover!” He laughed and straightened himself before moving to her side once more, his plume looping up in hers. Gently, he tugged at her slightly to show her that he was moving forward before actually starting, but from then he took careful, calculated steps, testing each step before full weight was placed down. No more was the way tightly cramped, but instead spacious, perhaps too spacious. The pebbles that were kicked away from their paws made tinkering noises that rippled toward one wall and off of the other.

Still he kept to a certain course, close enough to the right wall that his hairs very nearly brushed it – it was the only way not to get lost in the perpetual darkness. For an unknown amount of time they walked like this, in silence, before he turned back toward her. “My… my grandfather is dead, you know. I never met him… but Jorah told father that he hails from my grandfather’s pack. And that Grandfather died, and that Father is to inherit that throne. But it is a few days journey from here, perhaps a week? And surely Dad cannot rule two places at once… Do you think Father will leave then? To go there? Will we all leave? Or… will he leave us? It would be an awfully big adventure, to move somewhere different. What was it like when you left your home?” He walked in silence as he listened to her answer before he turned back to peer at her, and stopped short with a gasp.

For her face was outlined in a pale glimmer of light.

Sera!” So gradual had the increase in light been that he had not at all noticed its appearance, and as Vladimir cast his gaze upward he saw that the ceiling was covered in wriggling bodies of light – caveworms perhaps, or fireflies they may be. Which, he did not know, but he was most assuredly glad to have light fill his eyes once more. “If we can knock a few of those loose and they fall we can knock them around and light away… or even better yet perhaps they will fly around and we can see a cavern and what choices we have and find a way out!” Vladimir started barking at them, hoping to scare them and cause them to fly about, but alas he had no such luck.
