Well mine are not as colorful as yours, but here are a couple of phrases I had to explain to my son Tayllor recently.

"Don't throw out the baby with the bath water" (he had no idea they used to have to fill up tubs with water buckets and then dump them out)

"Don't cut off your nose to spite your face"
