Milder Christmas? IP: 139.127.253.7 Posted on December 17, 2016 at 00:23:28 AM by T
After a hectic few days of intense lake effect snow with bitter cold and blizzard conditions,
we deserve a bit of a break. But will we get one. First we have to deal with some snow Friday
night and Saturday. Most places will see 3 - 5". Then we will warm up Saturday with some
rain likely Saturday night. Another arctic front comes through on Sunday. One more chance of
some snow Sunday night as lake effect snow will try to develop. Then we turn quite tranquil
for next week. We start with a cold day on Monday, but then our temperatures warm near 40
for the middle of the week.
Overall we are looking at above normal temperatures right through the end of December. And
it is looking like Christmas weekend will be mild with temperatures in the 40's. We will have
to enjoy the break, because I'm sure winter will have more for us in January. There are some
signals that the Polar Vortex will weaken again in a few weeks. This would mean a chance of
some more cold air to come down from the North Pole. But even if a piece of the Polar Vortex
does not break off, we can still have some cold and snow, as our normal high temperatures
in January will be near 30 to 32 degrees. And with the weak La Nina pattern, I think we will
see some active stormy weather patterns. Replies: There have been no replies.
