aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

The princess knew as much as Vladimir did about the situation. She could only make assumptions about what Kalgalath would do, but Sera wasn’t saying what she was saying to be right. She wanted to comfort her friend, even if it was only a little bit. Vlad leaned into her for support as they walked, his usually well contained emotions bubbling up. There were so many questions that had been raised and he was still trying to figure everything out. Even if Seraphina was there as a shoulder to lean on or as a wall to bounce worries off, it was good for Vlad. It wasn’t good to hold everything in or shoulder your worries all on your own. When Seraphina admitted that she would go with Vlad if he left, the prince perked up a bit. “You will? You’d come with me? With us?” The ethiopianess nodded. Of course she would. She’d said so. “Because if you did you… you’d be family. We’d be family. And maybe when we grew up we could…“ Vladimir cut off suddenly, switching the direction of their conversation to Seraphina. “Nevermind… what was it like for you?”

By the time Sera had finished telling her tale, the pair had reached a cavern full of light and Vlad suggested that they should try and use the bugs to light their way. He tried barking at them at first, but Seraphina decided to try a more direct approach instead. She couldn’t help but grin with satisfaction when two cave worms fell to the ground. It wasn’t as many as she might have hoped, but two was better than nothing. “I think we can make two work! We just can each carry one and it will light our way as we are walking.” Vlad picked up his worm and Seraphina followed suit, trying to hold the worm as gently as possible. Personally, she wasn’t a huge fan of the taste of worm, but even though she tried, she was unable to prevent herself from crushing it a bit. She felt bad for them. They’d been enjoying their time doing… whatever worms did, and then she’d come and knocked them down and now they were being used as lights. But Sera didn’t dwell on this long. Vladimir tugged on her tail gently. The path was much more friendly with the teal glow that now lit the way for the pair. Before long, Vladimir spoke from beside her. “Well, I guess this is us! Unless we want to look for more downward tunnels?”
“No, I just want to feel the sun again!” They probably hadn’t been down in the caves that long, but it felt like years since the warmth of the sun had spread across her. As they walked down the tunnel, Sera remained by Vladimir’s side, despite the fact that it was widening and she could now see. She couldn’t explain why, so hopefully he didn’t ask. That would be embarrassing. After a while, they stopped, blocked by a dirt wall. “Don’t worry, I’ll get us out safely!” Seraphina stepped to the side, out of the way of the dirt Vlad was kicking up. Everytime he made progress, the dirt slid down and removed any trace of it. It was as though there was a never ending supply. But, Vladimir stayed true to his word and before too long he was able to crawl through the opening he’d made. Sera followed just behind. “Sera! We are free!” The prince laughed and Seraphina looked up at the bright sky, squinting in the sudden light, and smiled. It felt so great to be back in the open. Exploring the cave had been fun, but there was no doubt that they belonged up here.

“I thought we were never going to get out!” Sera shook her coat out, sending dirt and dust flying. And she was nowhere near is dirty as Vlad was. “But now we have our own secret cave! I bet Cas is going to flip when we tell him. I hope he won’t be mad that we went exploring without him. You don’t think he will be, do you?” She cocked her head at Vladimir and giggled at the sight of him. “You’re filthy, Vladimir. We should go back to the lake and-”

“Seraphina, darling, is that you?” A familiar voice cut the princess off and she spun around. It had been a while since she’d heard it. “Darling, look at you! I thought I raised you better.” There was no mistaking it. Mireille stepped towards Sera, offering Vladimir only a glance before deciding that he wasn’t worth her time. “And on such an important day too.” She tutted, shaking her head at Sera. “Well, it can’t be helped now. I’ll come up with an explanation, don’t worry.”
