Snow flies up in fine misty clouds. What was once undisturbed is now a chaotic mess off tracks. Two flashes of brown barrel through the trees, startling anything that may have been resting before. The flash in front was an unlucky deer that wondered too far from the herd. Still it managed to move gracefully, darting in and out between trees with ease. Without the large dark brown canine trailing behind, it may have passed for a morning run.

On the heels of the deer followed the wolf. The rich brown standing out starkly against the snow. Such a coat made hiding much more difficult, and without a pack, hunting down larger prey was a challenge. Nonetheless the wolf followed behind with unwavering determination and dexterity. He had to make quick work if he expected to eat. The forest was his turf, his advantage. He knew the terrain by heart, jumping over obstacles with finesse. But alone the wolf was at a hard disadvantage. Though he could keep up, actually catching or wounding his prey was a difficult. Along with that his advantage was running out. He could easily make out the open plains ahead. Trees becoming more and more sparse by the second. Pushing himself as hard as he could made no difference as he crashed through the treeline. He came to a somber stop at the frozen waterside as his meal continued on. The chase was over.
