Listener 4429, Battleships by Paddock

I don't recall the setter's name before, so perhaps this was a debut puzzle, or at least a debut Listener. It presented a number of tricky challenges, not only in the clues, but in the unravelling of the letter jumbles and their location in the grid. I found the SW corner particularly resistant and spent almost as long on that as on the rest of the grid. Nor was the endgame straightforward. I didn't expect to destroy one cruiser in the grid, so it was a while before I realized that 6d needed changing.
There were some really good clues (especially 15a, 40a, 4d and 25d),and the naval theme was skilfully sustained throughout.

I look forward to more from Paddock.
