Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

His time away from Taviora and Moladian was not in vain but Dexter didn't know if he would ever be ready to talk about it. His family never asked where he went late at night before or why he liked to be alone so much. They never asked why he never found someone to settle down with him though he knows he came awfully close to it with Calliel. She was the strong one, so noble and courageous. If there was anyone he could have seen himself with, it was her, but alas, she is gone from Moladian. He could taste it in the air the minute he set foot back in these lands. He had even gone the long way by Diveen's borders and knew that she hadn't been there in a long time. She probably wasn't coming back either.

She was a wanderer, like him. She needed adventure in her life, which is probably what drew her to him in the first place. He was mysterious and crafty. He liked to go out at night and it drew curiosity. He should have known he couldn't come back to find a happy ending. Not with her.

But Dexter wasn't losing hope just yet. He may not be a young buck anymore but he's far from old. If anything, he felt like he was in his prime now, strong enough to fight and experienced enough to know when not to fight. He was perfecting his trade while he was away. He worked on his tracking skills some more and learned how to be stealthy as a ghost when he needed to be. For to catch a ghost, you must be a ghost. He caught his fair share while he was away.

There was a red wolf who called himself Devine. Dexter thought he was just mad at first because he caught him talking to himself and humming and such. He admitted many murders but Dexter thought it was all just in his head until he saw it with his own eyes. Devine snuck up on another wolf and jumped them from behind. Before Dexter could see what was really happening, the wolf lie cold and dead on the ground. That dead wolf haunted his dreams to this day because he felt he should have been able to stop it. He just didn't know that it was a hunt for Devine. He thought maybe it was a game, that they were friends.

Once he saw what Devine could do, he tracked him to his den and found skeletons, both old and fresh. Devine apparently liked to drag them back to his den and chew on the bones while cackling like a maniac. He truly was a monster of his own design. That next night, Dexter put him down. He poisoned him with an elixir to knock him out then made him inhale a concoction that would paralyze him for hours. When the wolf woke up, he was staring into the dead skulls of all the wolves he had killed, even the one Dexter had watched. The eyes stared glassy and lifeless at him and for the first time, Dexter could see true fear in Devine's eyes. He could tell he wanted to scream but his mouth wouldn't move. He was in pure agony and yet, Dexter felt satisfied.

In the middle of the silent cries, Dexter grabbed the back of his neck in his mouth and jerked, having learned the precise movement to break a wolf's spine this way. It was much easier when they were relaxed so the paralysis concoction worked wonders for this and it left no trace. No blood. But blood is Dexter's lifeline so he would go one step further. He would turn the wolf over on his back and grasp his throat, tearing it with his canines until a small stream of blood appeared. Grasping a leaf in his mouth, Dexter caught a drop of blood and set the leaf down to dry before he tore the wolf into multiple pieces and buried it all in different corners of his den and the surrounding area.

Dexter had started keeping a collection of blood leaves, a relic of sorts for each kill. He was growing quite the collection. He wondered if he would gain more in Moladian. There was so much work to be done. But first, he needed to see to his family.

He hadn't expected his howl to ELICIT such a quick response. But sure enough, the familiar scent of Amoxtli reached his nostrils and Dexter found his ears pricking and his tail wagging by the time his older brother came into view. He barked in greeting, Standing his ground as Amoxtli embraced him. He wrapped his neck around the other male, inhaling his scent and sighing in contentment. He smiled.

"YES, I'M BACK. I'M FINE, BROTHER. A LITTLE OLDER THAN I REMEMBER BUT CERTAINLY NO WORSE FOR WEAR. I'VE BEEN EVERYWHERE, AMOXTLI. I GOT TO SEE THE WORLD OUTSIDE OF THIS ONE. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. I MISSED YOU, TOO."

His face softened, wanting his brother to know that he did genuinely miss his family. They were always close growing up, or at least they tried to be. He couldn't help the way his eyes lit up when he talked about traveling though. He didn't like to stay in one place too long. He hoped his brother wouldn't pick up that he didn't say he was home, just that he was back. He wasn't sure if this was considered home to him, anymore. Certainly it was his family's home, but he didn't want to put anyone in danger, especially because of him.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
