News - 6/19/21
Summer is here and Fall is short around the corner. There is unrest as it stands but, perhaps it is to our advantage. Let no one question our strength. Those who wish to speak on rank, seek me out. If anyone wishes to put a hunt together inform me. Adults or others who wish to rise in rank may seek me out.

My unease is calmed by the mere touch of Halcyon, his touch sparking a wakefulness in me that I had been lacking for a while. I am struck by the memories of a lifetime with him as a guardian. Always he made sure that me and Lazarus were taken care of - that we could continue to grow in our rightful place as heirs. Mother and father had put complete trust in him and I knew the look that Halcyon had shared with my mother was something akin to son and parent as well. I didn't begrudge him that. My mother had seemed to take in all the stray wanderers and their devotion had been absolute despite her not demanding it. Once upon a time I had thought my mother was too hard, too harsh, but further clarity has revealed to me that she did so with motives to strengthen those around her. Not once did she fail her wolves despite seeing the angry look on her face when I heard about the wrongs that had taken place in Iromar. I had complete faith that she would always right them. It seemed a cruel twist of fate that in trying to right a wrong she was slaughtered. So now both me and Halcyon were orphans but I was never truly alone. He had always been there, growing from guardian to friend to crush.

We move through the plains unmolested and find ourselves atop a knoll, looking down on the stretching horizon and herds of bison. Wolves laze in the distance. It is a marvel that the soil beneath my feet is now his. My eyes widen as they fly to him and he claims me as Queen. It is true that is what I had always aspired to be but I hadn't been the one given Asteraia and I was... confused. Did he wish me to have it? To... share it with me?

Halcyon bows and I stand uneasily, despite the thrill of those words burning within me. I want to question him but my mind is fumbling with a response and before I can formulate whatever it is I want to know we have moved towards a series of rocks. His next statement makes my ears flatten and my eyes water as I stare at them. Together, he says, and my heart swells. He has done so much for me and for my parents and I look at him now with fierce eyes. "I am honored." It is the first time I've ever said such to anyone, the first time I've truly humbled myself, but it doesn't feel wrong. He has earned it, and my affections, however closely guarded they are. I turn my face to locate a sharp rock and upon finding it I move to stand upon it, pulling my paw across it so that blood wells. Then I place my paw across two of the stones meant for my parents. "Mom, Dad, I'll get Lazarus back and I will make you proud." I feel self conscious stating such in front of Halcyon, never wanting to appear weak - likely a side effect of my mothers reticent affections. Then I look up at him and grin, my bold grin, proud once more. Happy. I don't press my paws to the last two stones because I didn't know the past rulers and what right should I have to guard their memories?

My grin fades into astonishment when he bows to me again and then I am thrown into a whirlwind. Wide eyed and slack jawed I listen in wonder. He has promised me the world and given me a pack, a pack he earned - I didn't deserve it. Didn't know a thing about the plains. And he asks to share it with me. Not just King and Queen but as a most loved one, the kind of tie that binds forever. My heart thunders in my ears and I blink hesitantly, still young, still unsure of my footing in life. "You... you want to be my mate?" My ears flip back in nervousness as I stammer it out, feeling quite shy now. I've always liked Halcyon, always grown selfishly possessive when I knew he was out speaking with others. It was his duty but I also knew he was older than me and he could have taken a mate elsewhere. "But I am still young," I say lamely because to Me our differences feel like the width of an ocean and I want him desperately but also fully. "I don't know how to be a mate. But if that's okay, can you teach me? I'd very much like to be yours." The last was said with the same hesitancy and shyness, and a lot of feeling.
