Re(14): Food For Thought

Seems like we need to do the pro-con list thing.

How does a 16' only, 24' only, or both help/hurt the Association?

How does allowing foam-silicone tires in 5lb Pro help/hurt the association?

So here are my thoughts on the subject.

Track Length:
I haven't pulled Micro's for very long and never on a 24'. I have pulled "stock" antique a bit. My experience there taught me that every track is different. Every sled is different. Every pull is different. The year of my best success I kept a notebook of location, sled, tire pressure, hitch height, weight placement on the tractor, and my opinion of the track condition. To be the best you need to uderstand how all of the variables interact and adjust your machine for the conditions at each pull. Personal opinion I like the option of two tracks. Keeps us pullers guessing/working to be better.

Pro-Stock tires:
I recently asked "where is the entry level class to draw more pullers?". I was told it was the PS class. If this is the case what adavantage for the group is there to allow a different tire in the 5lb only? I personally view 3 and 5 as one class with tow weights. I have one tractor that pulls both weights. I know there are a bunch of guys with dual weight tractors. If we allow foam-silicone (FS) ties in 5 I think presonal opinion it should apply to the 3 as well. If the PS class is the "beginner" class is there a price advantage to the FS tires? What does the FS tire offer to a new guy that the black rubber (BR) does not. From my pulling experience the right cut/wear/tread pattern can make a huge difference. I knkow we all have our secrets for "working" the BR tires to make them work, but we all start with as close to the same tire as the suppliers are willing to provide. On this issue if forced to vote I would probably say no.

Just the burping heartburn thoughts this "food" has given me

Joe
